Hyperspace.
For something that was so mystical, so unknown, surprisingly little thought went into the alternate dimension that shortened interstellar travel from taking generations down to a matter of days or hours. People familiar with space travel knew that hyperspace was indeed a fickle thing; safety features were required on every standard hyperdrive to protect a spacecraft from accidentally slicing through a planet at a speed faster than light or being crushed into atoms by the mass-shadow of a star. Yet outside of the occasional cautionary remark to antsy flyboys wannabes, little caution or thought was given to hyperspace travel and its unknown perils.
The terrorists at Ryloth had been run off; that itself was a victory for the Confederacy, yes, but it had come at the expense of lives, homes, and the former prosperity of the great planet. When the Confederacy rose to war, it was a terrible sight to behold, but war was done by the Confederacy with deliberation and awareness for the repercussions that might come from any battlefield. The Terrorists that had attacked Ryloth had not shown any of the same discretion, content to massacre as many native Twi’leks as they did droids to send their message to the galaxy. If it hadn’t been for the valiant sacrifice of many who served under the banner of the southern systems, those Terrorists may very well have succeeded.
But they hadn’t. Ryloth was broken, but still free.
The Concordance hurtled through hyperspace, blue swirls tumbling around the ship. The aging Comfort-class Medical Frigate had been requisitioned from the Bassadro Sector Armada to quickly transport a host of Twi’lek refugees that were in a critical situation to Thyferra, the unquestioned hospital capital of the Confederacy. It was paramount that no time be lost, for all of these civilians and soldiers were in a state hovering between light and death; the facilities of the medical cruiser could only try its best to keep them from slipping from the living plane onto the next. Both officers from the Confederate Defense Force and assorted personnel from other divisions in the Confederacy chosen for their apt in the healing arts were aboard the Concordance, working their best to keep the ailing refugees alive in time to get them to Thyferra.
But these Confederates were about to discover that what was always considered safe was quite more volatile. For an anomaly had drifted in between the hyperroute from Ryloth to Thyferra, something so violent and rare that it had never been documented, and was little more than a spacer’s tale.
A Hyperstorm.
A conglomeration of fluctuations in the alternate dimension, rarely had a ship ever entered one of these mysterious hyperstorms and made it out to tell the tale. Almost a massive cloud, the blue field of hyperspace would become purple as interdimensional lighting flashes, bolts white-hot and powerful enough to tear a ship apart. To survive such an event, one would have to slowly traverse the storm in one piece before the ship could make it out on the other side, navigating around gravity wells and other, more mystical objects as the universe seemed to collapse into itself.
And worst of all, the Confederates had no idea what was coming.
- The Concordance is an aging ship not built for battle, much less a hyperstorm. Do everything in your power to navigate the ship safely through the hyperstorm, while trying to keep preferably all of it intact.
- There are over a hundred patients aboard who are straddling the borders between life and death, and the turbulence of the Hyperstorm isn’t making them any better. Use all of your abilities at hand to try and keep all the refugees alive in time to get them to the medical facilities on Thyferra.
