Siaber[SIZE=10pt] Crystal: A flaw with the [/SIZE]siaber power generator is overheating, which can cause the crystal to break and lead to catastrophic results.
As part of the continued effort between Primo Victoria and Aurora Industries to develop new technologies. The Hailstone-type Ionized Mass Driver Cannon was one of those technologies. Capable of firing at long range it combines Gauss/Coil firing mechanisms and electromagnetic rails to create the Hailstone. The Ionization comes from built-in Ionization fields that the round travels through while being propelled through the shaft.
Initially launched by the coil firing mechanisms the round travels between electromagnetic rails, increasing in speed as it does while passing through the ionization field. The result is an ionized round that leaves at high velocity and travels to its intended target. Stopping power relies on the level of particle and ion shielding capabilities. The less you have of one the more of an impact the round will have. And, if there is no shielding to protect against kinetic/ion weaponry the more devastating the Hailstone can be.
Powered by Aurora Industries's [SIZE=10pt]siaber[/SIZE] generator provides the hailstone with its own source of power. Meaning it needs not to rely on the ship’s engines, and with its own sensors, it does not rely on ship sensors either. Add in heuristic data processing to enable the sensors to process data faster. The Hailstone is only able to fire one of two sizes either 406mm or 512mm rounds, a shell adjustment mechanism on the weapon allows crews to adjust the barrel. Target lock, tracking (from sensors), and reload assistance round out some of the weapon’s features. The last of the weapon’s features is the ability to fast track mounted which means it can be fire-linked. The weapon can be lent to a completely automated system thanks to the heuristic data processing, however; it is more effective in the hands of a gun crew.
