Strengths:
Magnetic Defense Field
The electromagnetic coils which make up the armour project a magnetic field around the armour capable to shrug off blaster fire in a similar manner to a deflector shield. The magnetic field interacts with the magnetic field containing blasterbolts, degrading it to reduce the power of the blasts. The field can also temporarily be overcharged, increasing the strength of the magnetic field. While the field is in it’s overcharge state instead of degrading the magnetic field of blasters it can actually redirect them. The Magnetic field also is capable of slowing, or repelling bullets. However, this overcharge mode is only temporary, and once used it takes minutes to recharge the capacitors before it can be reused.
Communications
The armour comes equipped with the Hermes, encrypted communications system, capable of using quantum key encryption to establish secure lines of communication. The magnetic coils threaded through the entire armour act as a large antenna, improving the pick up of communications, and allowing the suit to defeat low level of ECM noise. The magnetic coils also allow the armour to utilise Near Field Magnetic Induction to create a magnetic bubble around the suit, a bubble in which communications can be conducted without being intercepted. The armours also come with the Legion networking software, allowing them to share sensor and combat data with one another or the command posts.
Powered Battle Armour
Thanks to Locke and Key’s signature Myomer Actuation System, the armour can enhance the speed and strength of its user significantly despite its weight.
Shield deploys from the Vambraces
In the middle of a fight sometimes someone can get close to you and you don't have a chance to hit them with your gun. The Halcyon comes with a little surprise. Both vambraces of the Halcyon contain a Zeidrich shield, a variable tactical shield. With a gesture a hemispherical shield can surround the user, blocking specific attacks from breaking through.
Combat Blades deploy from the Vambraces
Sometimes you can’t engage someone at range, sometimes you just need to get in close to someone by your choice or theirs. Many people choose to carry some form of melee weapon but drawing this can take time, if you even have a weapon. To that end the Locke and Key engineers decided to include melee weapons in the suit, providing each vambrace with a retractable blade. In the world of armoured suit slamming into one another on a battlefield they wanted a weapon that could provide you with an advantage in this level of fight. They chose to include combat blades in the vambraces, able to deploy out on command to block or attack an enemy. However, these are static blades, extending out over the back of your hand which restricts their use in a fight, these are last ditch weapons meant to provide an emergency weapon that can come as a surprise for an unsuspecting foe. In order to give the blades the ability to impact combat between powersuits, or to give them the ability to hold of lightsabers, if only temporarily, the blades were based on the weapons of the Elite Praetorian Guard, provided with a molecular edge and threaded with plasma filaments to increase the lethality and capability of the blades.
Repulsorpack and manoeuvring thrusters.
The ability to fly, to float around a battlefield engaging and retreating from your enemies is a useful tool to have for any armoured combatant. The Repulsor pack allows for silent movement, but most importantly a greater level of control thank a standard jetpack would.
Camo:
The armour comes equipped with a optical cloaking system, capable of allowing the armour to blend into its surroundings and disguise it’s footsteps. Although not as capable as a true cloak, the Optical Camouflage allows the armour wearer to spring a nasty surprise on their targets.
Second Skin:
The Cyberlink connection plugs the armour directly into its users nervous system. Unlike other power armours it doesn’t read your bodies reactions to move, but rather can read your nervous impulses, reacting as if it was your own body. In the case of the boosted Halcyon Commandos this allows them to react impressively fast while in the armour.
Micro-Repulsors:
The Gloves and Boots of the armour are seeded with micro repulsors that help the suit to maintain its speedy movement despite it’s weight. The micro-repulsors also increase the damage caused by any kicks and punches delivered by the armour.
Weaknesses:
Power Intensive
In the event your suit loses power, it will be much harder to move in dead power armour. The armour contains thermal heat sinks as part of the armour built into the backpack to allow the armour to vent heat build up without damaging the suit's systems or hurting the user. If those sinks are damaged or blocked then the armour's systems will shut down rather than risk damage to the user until the sinks can be repairs or cleared.
Vulnerable Sensors
The Minerva System, the ability to draw data about your surroundings giving you the ability to make the best decision in any situation. But that system relies heavily on a series of sensors scattered all over its surface, but in order to do their job, the sensors have to be exposed. However this exposure also leaves then vulnerable, it is relatively easy to damage those sensors when the suit gets hit. With each sensor damaged the Minerva system loses its eyes, leaving the suit without one of its integral components. The suits sensors, exposed as they are, are also vulnerable to EMPs, ion strikes and jamming, disabling the sensors blinds the suit, nullifying the advantages of the Minerva. The Suit's over-reliance on its sensors also leaves it vulnerable to hacking, it's possible for the hacker to spoof the suit's sensors, feeding them false data that can lead to the user reacting to things that aren't there, or failing to react to things that are.
Vulnerable at the joints and soft flexible areas.
Built to fight in the fast-paced world of powerful battle armour combat the Halcyon needs to be protective but still allow it's user to move fast, to use the agility and speed of the suite to dodge attacks and deliver blows of its own. The side effect of this, however, is the armour needed to be thinner, more flexible at the joints allowing the suit to move and doge. However, this makes the suit weaker at the limbs, the armour thinner and easier to pierce. The Aegis comes with a variety of defensive options but an attack on the flexible sections of the armour can penetrate much easier, a marked vulnerability in the armour. This is especially true of acid attacks, while the armour plates themselves might resist the attack, any acid that gets between the attacks can damage the combat glove, working through to the user inside. The same is true for extreme cold and heat, while the armour can shrug of a fireball or ice blast, the plate nature of the armour leaves the user vulnerable to extreme temperatures in a way they wouldn’t be in a fully sealed suit.
One or the other:
The armour can’t run the magnetic defence field at the same time as the optical cloak, and the user must choose one or the other to be active at a time. While the laminate is tough, activating the stealth mode does compromise some of the armour’s other more specialised systems.
Not a silk dress:
The Halcyon armour doesn’t just slip on, or slip off easily, wearing the armour can be a time consuming process. The use of an armour frame does help speed it up, but this isn’t the sort of suit you can pull on in an emergency.
Second Skin:
While the direct connection to the armour helps to improve reaction speed and capability, it also means that a direct connection to the armour is required. This means that any cyber or ion attacks that manage to breach the armour’s capable defences have the potential to affect the pilot as well.
Repulsor pack:
While the armour is equipped with a repulsor pack it requires the armour to be under the effect of gravity to use, making it effectively useless in space or in any other situation where gravity, (artificial or real) is not present.
DESCRIPTION
Laminate Armour
Armour makeup:
Layer of Armourplast
Layer of thick Ultrachrome coils woven through Armourplast.
Layer of reinforced duraplast
Layer of Impact Gel
Layer of Quadanium Steel
The Halcyon armour is built around an exceedingly tough composite laminate armour, a thick plate made up of a series of layers which lends the armour its incredible defensive protection. The outer layer of the armour consists of a layer of Armorplast, the ceramic provides a smooth rounded surface to first meet any attack. The Armorplast provides a degree of protection against blaster bolts, whiles it’s smooth curved surface also has the added advantage of preventing any physical attack, slugs or weapon attacks from striking at the 90 degrees which are needed to transfer the energy with the most efficiency. Instead, the strikes are designed to roll off the surface of the armour. The ceramic nature of the Armourplast also has the benefit of protecting the armour against biological and acid based attacks, making it harder for them to damage the armour surface.
Underneath the Armorplast layer lies another layer of Armourplast, only this layer has wide bands of Ultrachrome threaded through the ceramic to form electromagnetic coils. The bands of ultrachrome in this layer are so wide that it would be easy to mistake it for a layer of Ultrachrome with a cursory glance. The ceramic armourplast is a non conductor, which allows the Ultrachrome to act as a magnetic coil, taking advantage of it’s superconducting capabilities to create the most efficient coils as possible. Under the ultracrhome lies a layer of a reinforced duraplast mesh which provides ion and emp protection for the armour. In addition, reinforced duraplast mesh provides a backing for the ceramic layer, the composite layer is designed to both dissipate any ionic or EMP damage they might see. The duraplast also serves to negate the weaknesses commonly associated with the Praetorian armour, namely the fact the magnetic fields were harmful to the wearer. The duraplast acts as a em shield, protectin the user from adverse side effects. Underneath the Duraplast lies a layer of impact gel, the gel can absorb physical impacts, protecting the user from the normal weakness of heavy armour, the vibrations of sonic and physical attacks that can shake someone up. The final layer of the armour is a layer of armor plast to provide a uniformity to the armour pieces..
Magnetic Defense Field:
The ultrachrome electromagnetic coils which are part of the armour’s make up can be activated at will to generate a strong electromagnetic field around the armour. This field when activated allows the armour to actually deflect blaster fire and any other magnetically charged energy weapon, or a physical shot. Much like the Elite Praetorian Guard upon whom the technology was based the field will also deflect a glancing blow from a lightsaber, but not a direct attack from the weapon. Due to the power requirements of the field the armour can only activate the stronger field required for deflection for short periods of time.
Even when the field isn’t boosted to deflection mode a current flow through the coils, generating a field similar to a shield that boosts the defensive capability or the armour.
Powered Battle Armour:
Through the use of Myomer the Halcyon suit is able to enhance the speed and strength of its user. This increase means that the Halcyon is not a suit you can just put on and use but takes some getting used to as the basic motor controls. Once mastered though the suit is able to massively increase your combat effectiveness by allowing you to move around the battlefield hitting that much harder. The armour's electric muscles allow you to move faster and hit harder than a normal human to the point where they can't keep up with you. Since the armour is designed for the augmented soldiers of the Halcyon program, so the limiters are taken off, and the myomer muscles are allowed to act at their fullest capability. While this makes the suit that much stronger, an unaugmented used wearing the armour would find the kickback would shatter their bones with the pressure of the feedback. The Armour lets you throw boulders and move fast enough to cover 100m in 3 seconds (OOC: The current record is around 9 seconds)
Vambrace shield:
The armour’s vambraces also contains a series of emitters for the Zeidrich Shield System, a powerful shielding system capable of deployed a variety of shields as the situation demands it. These shields are designed to augment the suit’s tactical capabilities.
Environmentally Secure:
The armour is able to completely seal itself off from the environment around it allowing the user to operate in the vacuum of space or in otherwise potentially hazardous zones. The suit contains filters for the air around it and carries an onboard supply of 8 hours of breathable air.
Repulsorpack and Thrusters:
The armour contains a small jetpack, not enough to lift you off the ground when on a planet. But in space, it gives the suit just enough lift to be able to move and manoeuvre over a short distance.
