Ion Specialization: The Hamatula class Cruiser specializes in the use of Ion Cannons to disable enemy vessels. Coupled with a series of Tractor Beam batteries to draw those vessels in and ensure they do not remain a threat to friendly vessels; with their main focus being on disabling enemy vessels not destroying them.
Boarding Tubes: These vessels utilized a series of Boarding Tubes to board enemy vessels once they've been disabled. Additionally the Hamatula class Cruisers are often assigned a contingent of Hellknights for such operations.
Non-Lethal: These vessels lack any kind of weaponry that would otherwise damage or destroy an enemy vessel as they specialize in the utilization of Ion Weaponry.
Escort Required: As a means to make up for their lack of destructive firepower, they often require escort vessels to provide additional support; often in keeping enemy Starfighters and Bombers away from the vessel to protect it while its contingent of Hellknights is boarding a disable vessel.
In certain ancient mythologies, the Hamatula or "Barbed Devils" were the Jailers and Guardians of Hell; thus that belief inspired the developed of the named Hamatula class Cruiser. These vessels are equipped with a series of Ion Weapons to ensure that they disable, not destroy their prey - and much like the entity they're named after, it is so that the vessel's contingent of Hellknights can apprehend the enemy crew. These vessels excel and are highly specialized in this role, so much so that they're often seen fielded by the Order of the Chain more than any other Hellknight Order.
However; they are some drawbacks, primarily the lack of any kind of destructive weapons. This requires these vessels to work with escorts at all times, often Anti-Starfighter frigates or larger Cruisers.
