Description:
Haneul Lounge is situated near the center of Sejong City, Seoul. It is a main attraction for tourists that wish to experience the lively nightlife of the capital city. The exterior of the building is quite sleek in design, a hint at the trendy atmosphere inside. While the club is quiet during the day, large crowds queue up when the streets get dark. Guests are kept outside in anticipation of the nightly opening at around 10PM, and the club is open until the morning hours.
The first level of the building is the main hub of activity for the club. There is a lounge area for socializing, with an ample amount of comfortable tables, chairs, and sofas. It is the perfect place for people to gather and enjoy a drink. The dedicated staff members roam this area, ready to take orders for cocktails and light fare. The area is styled with dark-stained wood, and a layout that connects to the main bar. The bar is easily found, lit up with accents of neon colors, and staffed with knowledgeable tenders. While there are tall cocktail tables nearby, most guests choose to take their drinks to the lounge or outside onto the patio space.
The main dance floor is located behind the bar, and opens up into a very large space. The DJ booth is located at the back of the room, and the perimeter is taken up by sitting areas and private booths. The scene is set with loud music, and bright lights. Of course, this is the main draw of the nightclub, and it remains open until the last dancers have finally left the floor. There are stairs that lead up to the private lounges and VIP space, and utility space tucked away under the staircase. All private rooms are furnished lavishly, featuring their own sitting areas, dance floors, and holodisplays. At the end of the utility area, there is a lift, but it is restricted to a small number of staff.
There is also a third level to the club, that is generally off-limits to the public. This level is guarded by bouncers, and doors that require clearance to enter. While there are many rumors that this is the private penthouse suite of the CEO, few are able to confirm.
History:
Haneul Lounge has been in business for five years, the first nightclub opened by Jonathan Ma. The young entrepreneur had always dreamed of opening his own club, and was able to realize his dream after making ties with a local crime lord. Coming from a middleclass background, he was not able to afford construction of the Lounge on his own. In exchange for some detailed information about the crime lord’s current foes, Tae-Young was granted a large sum that enabled him to move forward with his plans.
While Jonathan plays the part of a play-boy club owner, he has a darker side. The man is very well connected and uses his knowledge to his benefit. Known in the local kkangpae (gangster) circles as Ma Gangrim, Jonathan works as a slicer and infochant. The Haneul Lounge serves as his home base, and a front for his discreet business. He does make a decent living with the profits from the lounge, but his real income comes from his side work selling information to various figures.
The third level of the lounge is where he lives, a space that he keeps well-guarded at all hours. From there, he is able to monitor the lounge via the security feeds. Any that wish to take advantage of his infochant services will need to speak with the bouncer on that floor. Ma Gangrim will generally meet these clients in one of the private suites on the 2nd level, as it provides the perfect place to blend in with the crowd.
