After being forced to surrender his first lightsaber to a Jedi after a lost duel, Hans created a second to replace it. Hans, who typically fights with a shield as well as his saber, is limited in his ability to wield the force telekinetically in combat. To make up for this, Hans created his new lightsaber with a pressure grip that deactivates the lightsaber when it is not held allowing him to disarm quickly and without fear of injuring himself so that he can wield the force mid-combat. While his first lightsaber was returned to him by the Jedi shortly after its confiscation, Hans continues to use his new weapon instead.
