Unlike many members of the Templar Order, Harald was part of it for as long as he can recall. Templars had picked him up as an infant from a farm scorched to the ground in a skirmish between light siders and dark siders, somewhere in the Inner Rim. They named the child "Harald" which meant the warrior ruler. The boy spent his earliest years in temple of the Order, where he learned discipline and piety through work and religious education. He was brought up to be a god-fearing citizen of the galaxy, for whom every day begun and ended in prayer. It was among the priests of Adleiss The Shaper that he adopted an ascetic lifestyle and love for god. During the day he tended to the fields, while studying the Holy Codex in the evening.
When he was merely twelve, templars brough him along on crusades to study the art of smelting from the Armourers. He was taught how to work different ores and metals, the secrets of armory revealed to him from books, scribes but also from word of mouth. Upon growing strong enough to hold a sword, he was reassigned as a squire to the Seekers where he tended to melee and ranged weapons alike. There he was trained not only to forge weapons but also to use them; the sword, the spear, the crossbow. As the years passed, the boy grew into a man, who pledged his life to the Templar Order. The title "Valiant" was earned during a crusade when young Harald, without a moment's thought, risked his life to save the life of a fallen Knight-Commander by dragging him from enemy lines under heavy enemy fire.
