Hauntrusss: A Retrospective

I have been RPing Hauntruss for almost 2 years. And soon, (maybe end of this month if all goes well) I will be retiring her and moving on with her story to her daughter Grimoire - soon to be Zombie Queen of AzaZoth (but that is another story for another day ;) ) So I thought I'd write a little retrospective and see what you guys who've I've RPed with and haven't have to say about her. I would really like the feedback as I go onto RPing out the story of her daughter.

What is a Darth Hauntruss?
Darth Hauntruss or as she was one known - Val'Ryss Zankar - was a Jedi Master powerul in the art of manipulating life, in the early ages of the Old Republic who fell to the darkside and waged a bloody war of vendetta against them during the Dark Times. In a last stand on her cult world AzaZoth her soul was torn from her body and thrown into the light of the force as punishment. Centuries later she returns, possessing a dathomirian priestess hungry for power. Consuming her body she joins the Old Sith Empire under Moridin, and after a blood ritual on Togoria regains her full form and is reborn as Darth Hauntruss.

Hauntruss is very much oldschool. She is conniving, condescending, eerily quiet, corrupt and dark. She is a combination of my love for various villains from and outside of Star Wars. She's a bit of Palpatine, Sauron and Vader. Ever since I started her story I knew what her aesthetic was, power in the form of a shadow. Hauntruss would rather break you, than kill you, because ever soul she renders dark is an afront to the code of the Jedi which she despises with everything in her being. Life itself was a means to this end. To utterly break the Jedi and their foolish code.

So what's her deal?
This is probably one of the hardest tasks as someone who is RPing as a villain, let alone someone so vile as Hauntruss. The motivation is key. The balance is lending a credibility to their impetus for wanton destruction. I started off with a rather cliched and dangerous concept - Hauntruss is evil, because she is just that - evil. But, as a I progressed I was inspired by Darth Vader's style of angry Sith. And so the plan and simple answer is that Hauntruss' motivation is pure, unadulterated and unending rage. Hauntruss is so furious and feels so betrayed by her once loved Jedi Order that her anger has helped her spirit survive the void of the force. If you asked her now, why are you so enraged, and if she doesn't kill you outright, she'd probably forgot. In the story her rage derives from a moment when trying to save her loved ones she used a type of force manipulation the Order considered dangerous as punishment they removed her from the Order and then took her children from her. This sudden removal of everything she and sworn to protect unleashed her into a furious rage. An ultimate betrayal she would never forgive. And so for the centuries she has plagued the force as a haunting spectre of the farce and hypocrisy that is the Jedi Code. Hauntruss is a classic example of someone who is incapable of letting go. Letting go of her rage, her sense betrayal, her blood lust and her lust for never ending war. She is a victim of her own victimhood, warped into a reality that fits her and her alone.

So what is Hauntruss like?
That's for you guys to reply. What did you like? What dont you like? What did you hear about Hiss Hiss? Do you have any questions for me? What would you like to see her daughter be more like?

Thank you everyone. I have a had a blast with this character. Hopefully her daughter reaches the same renown as her dark and beloved mother :).

I recall helping in a thread to resurrect her as a young and plucky Sith Knight, it was one of my favorite sith empire threads and you wrote the darkness that she embodied rather well. I always enjoyed the stories you crafted with her (The ones I caught sight of anyway , which was woefully very few after the fall of the old empire) Thats all I really have to say.

Great character, will be sad to see her go

I can not say I have seen much of the famed Hiss Hiss. But I can, however, say that I wish I had seen more.
A grand villainess, a terrifying foe, a mighty commander. With the end of those two years comes the end of a beautiful thing.
And I must say, it is a thing I am very glad to have seen, even if I only witnessed a fraction of it.

I look forward to seeing what wondrously deviant things you bring to Chaos next.

I've always enjoyed Hiss Hiss as a coconspirator, antagonist, and conflicted family member. I would elaborate but an infant is chewing on my face.
This. All the way down to the young one lol.. well minus family member.

She was the ideal candidate for so many of plans, but we only role played together I think twice. Its a shame she leaves before it began. Would have been cool to finish our duel from forever ago!

Obviously, Hiss-Hiss has been a part inspiration for my own Ophidia (perhaps more so than I intended). Even though they have never interacted, and we have hardly ever spoken. As I said on the introduction of Grimoire, I've admired [member="Darth Hauntruss"] from afar.

I remember seeing her when Ophidia was Saiah, just an acolyte looking for a master to serve under. Hauntruss was high on the list, but I seem to remember you were away or otherwise not taking students. Still I heard stories, and a general positive buzz of this supremely evil sorceress that kicked ass like nobody's business.

I also remember wanting to join the massacre on Ithor/Ottega, but not finding time, or Hauntruss' meeting of Sith. Admittedly, I may OOC'ly have been too nervous about leaving a bad impression and not gathered the nerve to join. I can be rather timid in front of characters I admire. To me, Hauntruss is one of those legendary creatures I will always aspire to, and from what I have actually read of your writing of her, it would be hard work to dispel that notion of.

I could have swore I replied to this the day it was posted. But apparently I didn't. Hauntruss was one I never got to interact with ICly, but always wanted to. What I read of your character is one of the reasons I included Sith Magic as an ability for Ostanes, next to Alchemy. Your posts that I did manage to catch were always very well written and balanced, and it'll be sad to see ya go.

Oh, and yes, I concur. Much more hissing was needed. I have a fever, and the only cure is more Hiss-Hiss...
