Konrad Hayek was born on Lorrd to Arno Hayek and Katya Hayek (nee - Aslau), both immigrants from Archais. His father was a blue-collar man working the scrap yards and local dock, while his mother was a local teacher. He is the third and youngest child of the family. According to his father, the Hayeks trace their lineage back to pro-Imperial Separatists from the Cold War centuries ago.
While not a political family at all, but rather putting value in their heritage, Arno instilled a small sense of pride to a young Konrad of their lineage of ancestors who had fought for their ideas. During his youth, he helped his father during summer breaks at work, hanged out hunting with friends and every other middle-of-the-road activity you could think of; yet, never seemed to fit in fully with anything. He was neither an outcast, nor the focal, merely a presence.
At the age of eighteen the family moved back to Archais, where Konrad hoped to find his place alas to no avail. The waves of time carried him wherever they desired as he floated on a raft of indecision. He tangled with a band of miscreants, ended up in a lot of trouble and became a black sheep compared to siblings who studied, worked and prospered. A few relationships went wrong and sour way too quick. Time kept ticking and no shore of belonging to be found.
Neither here, nor there, ticking away the moments that make up a dull day. Fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way. Kicking around on a piece of ground in his home town waiting for someone or something to show him the way. Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain, he is young and life is long and there is time to kill today. And then one day he found years have got behind him - no one told him when to run, he missed the starting gun. And he runs and he runs to catch up with the sun but it's sinking, racing around to come up behind him again. The sun is the same in a relative way, but he's older; shorter of breath and one day closer to death.
No more.
When the New Imperials' recruitment campaign reached him, he enlisted to join the Stormtrooper Corps in spite of the galaxy he blamed for his failures. Hayek sought to find his place to belong even if he had to walk through the hell of war.
