Avin Starfire
Character
Heir hunting
Avin exhaled in relief as he strode out the hangar bay, his job was done at least and his pay would come shortly. Well, that was after the goods were checked and all but he didn't have to worry about that after all Avin was just the pilot. He shot smiles and waves at familiar faces as he exited the freighter dock, although most working there knew it was merely a front for the smuggling ring they still kept up the uniform and plastered company logos to the walls.
The streets were already filled by the time he’d arrived coruscant, party goers and shifty characters making their way deeper into the nightclub district. However Avin had other plans. Avin had decided ,when he left the galactic navy, to accomplish one thing; He was going to find the man responsible for his bastard upbringing. His father.
According to the doctors on Kuat, Avin technically doesn't exist. No birth certificate or official naming. However it wasn’t uncommon to have child at a local doctor as opposed to an official hospital. If that was the case then he had no chance of finding a certificate. Despite this Avin knew, thanks to what little he was told by his mother, that he had been conceived on Coruscant. Well he was in luck, work and his curiosity had brought him to the same place, he may as well start somewhere. Maybe the library will have some record he thought to himself and set off uptown.
Coruscant by night is a site to behold, neon lights and streets flooded with a variation of species unobservable anywhere else. The once capital of the empire and republic that stood before it now lies a colony of the new galactic alliance. This is none the more clear than the uptown areas. The library with its massive pillars and spires, now draped in Alliance banners and symbols. It reminded him of the officers academy in which he spent two years of his life.
Avin’s face screwed up for a few seconds as he stepped into the main library, the musk and smell of thousand year old books and artefacts hit him unexpectedly. He pushed on through alas he didn’t have the time on coruscant to be worrying about funny smelling libraries. The library was divided into multiple sections with different sections.
“Welcome, how may I be of service to you?” said one older looking Askajian who was approaching him. The man was a cottage loaf of fat rolling down from his face under his simple brown robes.
“Hi, I need help with finding out a family member, don’t suppose you have access to the corellian hereditary database do you?”
The librarian’s head twitched, though his warm smile stayed. “We have all planets from within alliance territory and those neutral to us; i’m sure we may be able to access the registry data from the planets.”
Avin pursued the librarian as he led Avin for about three minutes until they came to a line of computers. The librarian checked a number against one of his own then reinstated his overtly happy - close lipped smile.
“Here should have as much information as is available to us.”
Avin Nodded and used his more refined voice drilled into him back into the academy “Thanks for the help, I wouldn't even know where to start in a place like this.” he smiled and as quickly as he had appeared the Askajian faded away into the metropolis of bookcases and data-banks.
As he approached one of the peripheral terminals wired into the data-banks Avin took a moment to look around. There were three other people in the room, two fellow humans and a cerean female in the corner the top of their head poking out over a monitor. Avin sat down and pulled up a search function.
*Please enter: family name - Species - Planet of inhabitants*
He quickly entered his family credentials : Starfire - Human - Corellia
Avin still had no clue where his real family came from or if they were from either of the systems he was told they were, but his mother said that his father had been a corellian so this was the best he could hope for.
The screen changed into a display mode and words started to work their way down the screen. Avin started to check each entry. Seemed that Starfires was not that common as only nineteen entries flashed up. The first ten held no meaning to him most were from so long ago in the republic era that they were useless or they were from systems on the other side of alliance space.
However the seventeenth entry poked at Avin’s interest. When he had attempted to open the data module he had been asked to give Authorisation. He typed in his old service number wondering if they had ever cancelled it but had no luck. It wasn't until his fourth or fifth try that he decided to give up, after all it was late and he hadn’t even met up with his crew for drinks yet.
As Avin picked up his coat and went to exit the library he noticed that it had almost emptied, it was already sparse at this time of night anyway, however now it was silent. He shrugged and continued yet as he turned the corner he was confronted with an unsettling sight. 8 cloaked figures stood staring at him. They blocked the door and even as he turned to back the way he came another two appeared, blocking him from leaving. Instinctively his right arm dropped under his coat, gripping the DE-10 blaster and sliding the power switch on. He drew the weapon and… his finger froze against the trigger. He pulled as hard as he could but he couldn’t move his hand.
One of the cloaked figures started to move in on him, the humanoids hand was stretched in front of him with their fingers curled. Avin's arm started to twist and he shouted in pain, yet nothing came out. The blaster dropped to the floor with a clatter yet Avin didn't care, his face had started to sweat as he realised he couldn't breathe. Force wielders. Yet what did they want with him. They wouldn’t call in the sith just for a smuggler and especially not on coruscant!
His vision had started to blur and his strength left him, his mind panicking but then falling quieter and quieter until unconsciousness took him...
