- Rugged and Reliable: Though the FSMG-01 is cheaply made that doesn't mean it is of poor quality, it is in fact a very reliable as its loose tolerances allow the build up of more debris without malfunction

Following on from the success of the pistol and rifle from their Frontier series of weapons the design team at Hekler'Kok began conceptualizing various other weapons they could produce for aforementioned line. They decided that the next logical choice for the line was a submachine gun and so the design team began work on developing one.
As always they began by deciding on what materials they would utilize in the weapons construction. Taking cues from the the FP-01 and FR-01 they decided on the readily available Durasteel for use in all of the weapons metallic parts. Any non-metallic parts, such as the weapons furniture and such, were made out of Plastoid to reduce weight without compromising durability. The SMG's barrel was lined with Chromium to reduce internal wear and tear and finally a Rubber padding was added to the pistol grip and handguard. As with the FR-01 extensive use of stamping and printing was used.
The next step in their process was deciding on the cartridge that the weapon would be used. In order to keep some ammunition commonality between it and other weapons in the Frontier line the FSMG-01 was chambered in the same 7.62x25mm cartridge as the FP-01.
The last step in their process was the choosing of features that would be included in the design. Ambidextrous controls like the fire selector and magazine release make it comfortable for all shooters and a ambidextrous charging handle as well enhances this comfort even more. A padded and textured pistol grip and handguard allows for a tighter hold on the weapon, a folding stock for easier storage and transport and finally a textured charging handle gives a better grip when racking the bolt.
In all the FSMG-01 came out as a rather inexpensive yet reliable weapon. It began to garner use among police forces, mercenaries, bounty hunters and even some of the seedier elements. The executives at Hekler'Kok considered the FSMG-01 a financial success and as such more weapons in the Frontier series were set to be produced.
