SPECIAL FEATURES
- Computerized Interface Scope w/Backup Red Dot Sight: A 6-60x variable zoom scope with integrated ballistics computer capable of interfacing with one’s helmet heads up display as well as being used traditionally, also includes a red dot sight piggyback mounted to it for close in encounters
- Recoil Dampening System: Miniature repulsors installed into the receiver of the rifle help to counteract the recoil of the weapons firing by activating when the rifle fires and nudging in the opposite direction to produce a light recoil impulse
- Forced Air Intake Cooling Shroud: A small shroud encompassing the barrel provides extra cooling to the rifle by using the muzzle blast of it to draw in air over the barrel to cool it and help prevent overheating
- Heavy Barrel: In an effort to both prevent overheating and increase accuracy the barrel of the rifle is constructed more heavily in order to better dissipate heat and mitigate muzzle rise
- Full Ambidextrous Controls: A set of fully ambidextrous controls means no matter what hand the user prefers they will be supremely comfortable using this rifle
- Stock Storage Compartment: A hollow storage compartment in the rifles stock allows for storage of everything from spare parts to rations to even a small blade, all depending on the user preference
- Parts Compatibility: In a effort to sweeten their bid the design team at Hekler’Kok made the rifle share parts compatibility with the Alliance’s standard service rifle, the BHSR-1, with a 35% part interchangeability between the two rifle, it also utilizes the same type of power cell and gas canister
- Piercing Bolt: One reason that the design team chose to use the MK Rifle as a base for their entry was due to its known stopping power, rumors even saying that with the right modifications it can even pierce Beskar armor
- Rugged and Reliable: The design team at Hekler’Kok developed the rifle to be able to function in even the most austere environments from ice planets to volcanic worlds and even while submerged
- Keep it Simple: While there are a few advanced features and systems within the rifle the design team at Hekler’Kok kept the construction of it as simple as possible in order to, for a lack of better term, soldier-proof the rifle and make in the field repairs easier
- Long and Large: As one comes to expect from a sniper rifle the one designed by Hekler’Kok is rather large and long making it unwieldy and unsuited from close quarters fighting
- Semi-Auto Slow: In order to retain accuracy over distance the rifle is permanently set to fire in a semi-auto operation, relying more on accuracy than volume for suppression
While Hekler’Kok Defense Industries has recently been out of the game when it came to producing armaments for large governmental entities recent events have caused a shift in their mentality and they once again produced a weapon for an open contract released by the GA, hoping this time their entry would make the cut.
Coming into the contest relatively late, and also being more adept at developing slugthrowers versus blasters, the design team at Hekler’Kok focused on re-engineering an existing design rather than creating one from scratch. They began searching archives both recent and historical to find a rifle they could improve on. They found this rifle in the 785MK Firepuncher-X produced by Merr-Sonn Munitions in the early years of the Imperial Era.
As part of the redesign they began by constructing the rifle out of different materials than its original design. Hekler’Kok ubiquitous Titanium-Alusteel Alloy was chosen for the receiver, barrel shroud and internal components as it gave the rifle a sturdy yet lightweight construction. The barrel was made of Dallorian Alloy to help with overheating. The stock and pistol grip were made of Betaplast, an upgrade from the original Plastoid, with the pistol grip then receiving a Rubber overmold to help with shooter comfort. Lastly all the rifle metallic surfaces were plated in CeramiCoat to protect from hazardous environments.
With the rifle fully constructed they added in the weapons special features and then began testing it in a wide range of environments. The testing team took the weapon to various worlds such as Tatooine, Mimban, Aeten II, Hoth and Glee Anselm to test it in a variety of austere environments. Whenever faults were found in specific environments the prototypes were sent back for adjustment until the testing team were satisfied.
With environment testing complete the testing team began work on some more…destructive tests. Using pieces of armor ‘acquired’ from some sources they began to test armor penetration and damage after said penetration, said armor pieces being from a wide variety of factions, both hostile and not.
After almost two months of non-stop arduous testing the team was finally satisfied and would present the rifle to the Alliance for testing, christening it the Firepuncher Sniper Rifle Model-01, or FSR-01 for short.
