- Indirect Fire: Being a mortar the IM-01 has the advantage of not having to be able to see its target to fire at and hit it
- Wide Variety of Ammunition: Being a mortar the IM-01 has access to a wide variety of ammunition from high explosive to smoke to illumination
- Heavy and Cumbersome: Because of its intended use the IM-01 is a rather large and cumbersome
- Crew Served: Again due to the nature of its intended use the IM-01 requires a crew of three soldiers to operate
- Slow Rate of Fire: Due to only being able to fire one round at a time the IM-01 has a rather slow rate of fire, this was also a intentional design aspect to reduce the possibility of overheating
One of the last things that Hekler'Kok found that its catalog needed was a piece of weaponry that could serve as indirect fire weapon and it was with this in mind they began to look for what they could use to achieve this. In the end it was decided that a mortar would be the best weapon to use as it was small enough to be transported by a small team but provided enough firepower to be a game changer in battle.
With this in mind they began to choose the materials to use in the mortars construction. They decided the tube, tripod and baseplate would be made of the company's usual Titanium-Alusteel Alloy to keep the weight down as much as possible without sacrificing durability. The barrel was lined with Chromium to reduce wear and tear and the entire mortar was plated in CeramiCoat to reduce as much damage to the outside of the mortar as possible.
With the basic design and construction materials chosen the team began work on adding in the features the weapon would need. The first feature was an integrated targeting computer that helps the mortars crew with things such wind and other environmental adjustments. An electromagnet accelerator in the mortars baseplate allows a higher muzzle velocity and therefore range. An elevation adjuster is the weapon main adjustment for range. A tripod system gives the weapon stability when deployed. Lastly the weapon was constructed so it can be broken down into three pieces, the tube, the tripod and the baseplate, to allow for easier transport.
