After designing, building and testing of the KSP-1 the Kathol Republic came to believe that Hekler'Kok was a reliable and quality weapons manufacturer and began to give even more contracts to the company, the first of which being the design and manufacturing of a family of infantry weapons for their military, to include a personal defense weapon, a battle rifle, a automatic rifle and a designated marksman rifle. While this time around the Hekler'Kok design team was given some more leeway in their design they were also given a few standard they had to adhere to. Once again ambidextrous controls were a must, all the weapons had to chamber the same cartridge, they had to be as similar as possible and the main battle rifle had to include a mounting system for a underslung grenade launcher. Other than these three features the design team was given almost complete autonomy.
The first big issue the team had to conquer was the decision on the cartridge to be used. While using the same cartridge was rather simple for the PDW, BR and AR they found that the main issue came when trying to use the same cartridge for the DMR. The design team bounced back and forth between a intermediate cartridge like the 5.56x45 and a full rifle cartridge like the 7.62x51. In the end they meet in the middle and chose the 6.8x49mm cartridge for the rifle.
The second biggest issue was the fact of making the weapons as similar as possible. At first the plan was to simple make each a separate weapon based of the same system. This initial prototype was show to the Kathol Republic but they expressed uncertainty about it so the design team returned to the drawing board. Eventually they found that the only way to make the weapons as similar as the Kathol Republic wanted was to make them all a modular system and so that's what they did. Thankfully due to the fact that the weapons all used the same cartridge the only things that needed to be done when switching between configurations were changing out the barrel and handguard and adjusting the gas system, which all could be done with one tool and in less than a minute.
Once all these issues were solved and ironed out the team could finally move on to selecting the materials to be used for the weapons. Thankfully this proved rather simple as the Kathol Republic had remarked that they had liked the materials used in the KSP-1, so with this in mind the team stuck to these materials. They constructed the shell and inner mechanisms out of their patented Alusteel-Titanium Alloy, crafted the barrel out of Quadanium steel and then lined it with Chromium and finally added a coating of a ceramic protective material, giving the weapons a distinct tan color like the KSP-1.
The final step was adding the features in. Of course the requested features like ambidextrous controls and a thread barrel were added but the team took their creative freedom allowed and ran with it. All variants were equipped with a integrated variable zoom optic that could go from two to ten times magnification. A grip mounting rail was added to the PDW and BR and replacing this with a integrated bipod for the AR and DMR configuration. Finally they added a quick change barrel to the AR configuration to deal with overheating from possible prolonged fire.
