- Small and Portable: The main design philosophy behind the SC-01 was to make a small and portable weapon that could be easily transported in tight and confined spaces like the inside of a starfighter, vehicle or survival backpack
- Slow Firing: A lot of cutbacks and sacrifices had to be made to fit a rifle in a submachine gun sized package, one such cut back the the complete deletion of a automatic firing mode which severely hampers the weapons rate of fire
Looking to expand their product line once again the designers at Hekler'Kok began developing ideas for a new weapon that they could market. One weapon that gained a lot of traction was known simply as a 'survival carbine'. The concept was that of a rifle caliber firearm the size of a submachine gun that would take up minimal storage spaced and could be stored in small spaces and used in emergencies.
With the idea formulated they began working on a feasible design they could work on. In the end they developed a semi-automatic carbine chambered in the same cartridge as their AR-01, the 6.8x49mm caliber. They decided on this cartridge for two reason, it gave users some familiarity with the weapon if they've used Hekler'Kok weapons previously and the 6.8x49mm is made in both armor-piercing and hollow point models.
From their they began the process of choosing the materials that would be used in the carbines construction. They used their trademark Titanium-Alusteel alloy for the receiver, stock, barrel and internal mechanisms to keep weight down without sacrificing durability. The barrel was lined with Chromium to reduce barrel erosion.
