- High Explosive Rain: In a howitzer role the VRPC-01 is able to lob proton shells at a extremely long range, being able to accurately hit targets kilometers away. In a direct fire role it is also more than able to deal with fortified positions, bunkers and armored vehicles as well.
- Wide Variety of Ammo Types: The VRPC-01 has access a extensive and exhaustive array of ammunition types, from your standard high explosive for when you need to blow something up to an armor piercing round for taking out armored vehicles.
- Crew Served Weapon: While used outside of the an armored vehicle, and even to some extent inside, the VRPC-01 requires more than a single man to operate and
- Exposed Operators (Mostly): When not used inside of an armored vehicle the operators of a VRPC-01 are entirely exposed to enemy fire
While most of the business that Hekler'Kok Defense Industries does is either in small arms or personal armor they recently began to diversify their product portfolio and to start doing this they began working on a proton cannon that could fill the niche that needed filling. While the first idea for the cannon was originally building one specific for each role the design team decided to simplify both development and production by simply making one that, with some easy modifications, could be utilized for each needed role.
Once the basic design was chosen the team began work on working on choosing the materials to use in the cannon of which they decided on using their trademark Titanium-Alusteel alloy, known for both its, relatively, low weight and strength compared to other alloys and metals. With the materials chosen they began work on putting the features into the weapon.
The first was an electrical fire control system which was augmented with a backup manual fire control system. A traverse system allows the cannon to be lowered to negative ten degrees or positive seventy-five degrees. Towing/sling loading hooks allow the cannon to be either towed by a vehicle or carried by underneath a dropship. The variable mounting bracket allows the cannon to be adapted to its various roles. An adjustable electromagnetic accelerator can be configured to allow the cannon to have higher muzzle velocity, for anti-armor/fortification use, or longer range, for indirect fire use. A optional muzzle brake and autoloader help to mitigate flash and speed up reload, respectively. Lastly an additional coil attachment point allows the cannon to be enhanced further.
