STRENGTHS
- Juggernaut: The Herald of Dawn features a multilayered and honeycombed series of armored plating, designed to offer the maximum amount of protection for the vessel. Combined with the Mon Calamari standard overlapping shield design, the Herald of Dawn is able to shrug its way through the firepower of entire enemy fleets, and emerge from the other side able to continue the fight.
- Hangar Space: Originally used for mining purposes, the extensive hangars located across the entirety of the Herald of Dawn allows for the vessel to house an immense number of starfighters and support craft, allowing it to defend itself against bomber attacks, as well as fight a long range conflict using its own bomber and strikecraft. As there is no central hangar, the Herald of Dawn is able to deploy its fighter compliment from various locations across its hull, with an internal convey system able to move vessels from one hangar to another allowing a constant deployment no matter how many hangars are damaged.
- Speed is Optional: Originally, the Herald of Dawn did not have a great need for speed. As such, the vessel was fitted with a below average number of engines and thrusters, allowing the vessel only minimal amounts of speed outside of hyperspace. Despite the best efforts of the Brotherhood of the New Dawn, the speed of the vessel cannot be improved, and if trapped in a system or location without a chance to use its hyperdrive, the Herald of Dawn will likely not be able to outrun any pursuers.
- Exposed: The original power generators for the Herald of Dawn, while highly efficient and effective for their time, had problems with overheating. Part of this problem was solved by a vast array of solar collectors spread out around the vessel to lighten the load. The rest was handled by placing the generators, rather than deep inside the heart of the vessel, along the exterior of the ship, where the heat could be vented directly into space. While protected by shields and some armored layers, these generators can still be sighted and targeted, and if crippled, with greatly diminish the vessels energy output.
The vessel that would become the Herald of Dawn was built centuries ago, during the Galactic Civil War between the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire. During the early stages of this conflict, the world of Mon Calamari was enslaved by the Empire. Following the death of their king however, the Mon Calamari people rose up against the Empire. A flotilla of vessels broke through the surface of the ocean world, and escaped into the deep void of space to join the Rebel Alliance in their war. The Herald of Dawn was one of these vessels, though it was far larger than most of the other craft in the escaping fleet.
This escaping fleet would eventually be tracked down and attacked by the Empire, and in the ensuing battle many Mon Calamari ships were lost. The Herald of Dawn, among the vessels most damaged, attempted to make an escape from the battle only to have its hyperdrive severely damaged. The vessel was flung far off course, and emerged eventually deep inside the Tingle Arm. No members of the crew survived the journey, with the life support failing and inertial dampeners failing to diminish the vessels sudden change in velocity. Crippled, operating on reserve power, the vessel would drift through the void of space, lingering at the very edges of the galaxy until it was finally discovered again by the Sith Lord Darth Acharon.
The leader of the fledgling Empire of Ailara, Darth Acharon and his forces were exploring the deepest reaches of the Tingle Arm when the vessel was discovered. Upon boarding, Acharon came to feel a deep connection to the vessel. It was towed back to orbit above Ailara, where it would undergo heavy repairs and refits before being declared space worthy again. Rather than committing the vessel to his Empire of Ailara, however, Acharon decided to use it instead for the secret project he had been planning for some time. Renaming the vessel the Herald of Dawn, Acharon turned the vessel into the mobile capital for the Brotherhood of the New Dawn.
