Somebody’s got to have it, why not us?
Corporation Name: Hestilic Kajidic
Headquarters: Nal Hutta
Locations: Nal Hutta, Nar Shaddaa, Syvris, Ziugen
Operations: Crime syndicate involving slavery, spice-smuggling, entertainment, arms dealing and piracy
Subsidiaries:
Parent Corporation: N/A
Primary Source: N/A
Rationale:
There were few Hutts who did not follow the lifestyle of a crime lord and stick to their kajidic’s criminal activities. When Kossak the Hutt became a young adult he travelled to Balosar in pursuit of this career. Even from a young age, Kossak showed an aptitude for dealing with criminals. What he lacked for in resources and power he made up for with the ability to manipulate and use others to his benefit. Competitors turned against one another, and more and more joined Kossak’s cause. Through such tactics and Huttese patience, he eventually established himself as a dominant player in the spice trade on Balosar.
Kossak was heir to the respectable Hestilic clan. Upon the death of his uncle he was called upon to take formal control over the Hestilic Kajidic. The Hestilic clan was an old one, however it had long since fallen from its former power. The kajidic is no longer as powerful and influential as it once was. Even so, taking over the family business increased Kossak’s resources significantly.
Kossak moved his seat of power from Balosar and back to Nal Hutta, but he left someone loyal behind to look after his affairs and enforce his will in his absence. Thus he retained some control over the criminal underworld on Balosar, which he brought with him into the Hestilic Kajidic. It is Kossak’s greatest dream and ambition to bring glory to his clan name and not only restore, but expand the sphere of influence of his kajidic beyond anything it has ever known before. Named after a great Hutt, great things were also expected of him. The pressure of expectation is on him, but he intends to exceed even those expectations.
Upon stepping into the family business a few things changed. For one, his business expanded from exclusively spice trade to also involve slavery. With the increase of power came an increase of his already large ego. He became more aggressive, sometimes turning to outright piracy for profit. Further, projecting power became even more important to him, and he started surrounding himself in various forms of extravagance.
Description:
A kajidic was a Hutt social structure that was both a family and a crime gang. The Huttese word for kajidic is said to literally mean “Somebody’s got to have it, why not us?” The term is used for the Hutt clans, their business enterprises and criminal syndicates. Separate clans would usually run their own kajidic in competition with other clan's. The kajidics were governed by the Hutt Grand Council, which oversaw their operations. Each kajidic had an appointed leader, called a kajidii or lorda. Kossak Hestilic Vann is the current kajidii of the Hestilic Kajidic. After Kossak the Hutt’s passing it shall pass on to his strongest heir.
Unlike the usual crime syndicate that operated in secret, the Hutt clans operated out in the open. Hutts did not try to justify their criminal actions as doing so was a sign of hypocrisy which was not part of their way. Instead they did everything as part of their laws and customs without pretending that they were bastions of morality. The Kajidics operate under the protection of the Hutt Commercial Laws.
Hutt Kajidics were family-run criminal/business syndicates known for having their hands in all kinds of criminal ventures. The Hestilic Kajidic focuses on three areas: slavery, spice-smuggling and piracy. They are based out of Nal Hutta, though have a strong presence on Balosar. Nar Shaddaa is a recent expansion they seek to keep nurturing in the future.
Spice-smuggling is the main source of income for the Hestilic Kajidic. Smugglers would frequently be hired to aid in this endeavour. Some form of spice trade will exist on every world they set themselves up for business on. This is especially true for their operations on Balosar, as this was where Kossak came up before he assumed control over his clan’s kajidic. Spice-trade was his preferred trade.
Slavery has become a profitable venture on the side. Expansion is hindered by anti-slavery laws, however. Sometimes this makes slave trade impossible on certain worlds, sometimes it’s just a little difficult. Hestilic Kajidic’s slave trade presence is particularly strong on Nal Hutta, compared to their other planetary locations.
Piracy is but an occasional affair for Kossak the Hutt’s kajidic. It is used as a way to intimidate and punish those deemed suitable. Sometimes ships are just taken as a bonus when news of a valuable and relatively unprotected vessels enters their space. If one can’t be bothered to purchase goods and wares to sell, ransacking ships from their loads was a viable option.
The Hutts were famous for their ruthlessness, and Kossak is no different. His kajidic will steal, cheat and murder without regret. While promises are fickle, Kossak is known for honouring contracts made. That being said, if he feels slighted or that the other party has acted unfairly, he may take that as justification to break off the contract.
The kajidic’s headquarters is Kossak’s palace on Nal Hutta. This is guarded by a selection of mercenaries as well as possible bounty hunters on call at the moment. It is also inhabited and to some extent protected by a number of slaves. Though Kossak has no rancor pit, he has torture chambers to deal with failures and unwanted guests.
The business enterprise's main purpose is to produce wealth for its kajidii. The kajidic is constantly seeking to expand its influence and power, following the dream of the superclan destined to eventually rule the galaxy. The Hestilic Kajidic is technically open to doing business with anyone, provided they follow proper Huttese etiquette and don’t anger Kossak the Hutt. However its connections with the slave and spice trade is bound to turn some potential business associates off. The Hestilic Kajidic, like most other kajidic employs people of various species. Most commonly found are the Nikto, Gamorreans and Weequay. Rarely does Kossak leave on business himself, rather he makes the business come to him. When this is not possible he will send a trusted agent in his stead. On the rare occasions where he does show up in person, it will usually be on a hoversled or travelling on a sail barge.
