- Flechette thrower: The Heavy Flechette Launcher can fire huge numbers of high velocity flechettes for extended periods of time, creating a thick cloud of rounds that can both shred fighter formations or tear through shields.
- Shielding: The flechettes are good at overloading deflector and similar shield generators, and can keep up pressure to prevent them from being restored.
- Unwieldy: The Heavy Flechette Launcher requires a large mount to function, and its ability to traverse and hit fast moving targets is limited.
- Armor: The needles lack armor penetrating capabilities, and may simply deflect off or embed themselves without any real effect.
The Heavy Flechette Launcher is a caseless slug weapon that fires huge quantities of flechettes in rapid bursts, stripping shields from a target before other weapons can land a finishing blow. While most militaries have been using turbolasers and other energy weapons for centuries, Hexus Contingent relies on solid slug and other projectile weapons to provide anti-capital ship firepower, and the specialist flechette weapon saw little use due to the rarity of energy shielding during its age. Despite its antiquated design the weapon can reliably overload most military deflector shield generators and rip through fighter formations, though its use of solid ammunition means it cannot be mounted on fighter craft and must be resupplied after combat.
