Hidden Eyes

Farlon Orbit

Tough, Disciplined, Die-hard.
Orbit was preparing for final report and inspection by the queen, he was due for his three day leave, which he had applied for not too long before. But before he could go anywhere, he must turn in to the queen to ensure he was in fit order to leave, it was arbitrary, but it was a rule Orbit followed to the utmost detail.

This was, however, different from just taking leave, he was doing something far more ominous. Orbit was leading his own independent investigation into the disappearance of the council of elders. Far beyond the purview of a simple bodyguard, but it was information he needed to know. Orbit couldn't stand to work for another person of greed, not after all that he had done to forget his past. His moral less mercantilism hung on his conscious more than anything he had ever done, and Orbit would go to any length to ensure he never would again.

He approached the queen's quarters and requested entry, his royal guards uniform in impeccable condition, his blaster cleaned and ready for inspection, and his alibi only half practiced. Orbit fell ill prepared, but he had run out of time to wait, he needed to leave, he needed to find out, now. Once the door opened, Orbit announced, "Farlon Orbit, Royal bodyguard. Ready for inspection."

Kay would normally have been reading one of her holo-novels, sipping her tea and enjoying some quiet time. But not today. Ever since Commenor had begun expanding it's reach and putting more worlds under it's care, she found herself with more and more paperwork to do. [member="Veiere Arenais"] had suggested that she set up a Senate, making Commenor more of a Republic rather than giving off the image of her being an Empress with a vast Empire. In a way he was right. It would ease some of the burdens on her, improve her public image should her secret of being a Force User come to light, plus it would give the worlds flying her banner a better sense of control over their own futures and economy. All in all, it would make everyone feel more secure.

So that's what Kay was doing when [member="Farlon Orbit"] had knocked on her door. She was going through the process, doing some research, and going through possible locations for the Senate Hall to be built. As he walked in, she looked up, turning off the screen of her datapad before getting to her feet and walking around her desk. She stopped just in front of him. "Taking a few days off, are you? I envy you all for being able to do that. I could take time off and go on vacation somewhere, even finally go on my honeymoon, but I haven't the time. There's too much work to do. Where are ypu heading off to, if I may ask?"

Orbit wasn't surprised [member="Lady Kay"] did not bother with an actual inspection, she was not the type to go over arbitrary regulations and protocols. But the clone was a little off put by the question, no matter how many times he practiced his answer, how many times he convinced himself it would be conspicuous, he was uneasy lying to the queen, "I intend familiarize myself with Commenor, maybe socialize. I've always considered finding a place to settle down and raise a family. I think it's about time I start." Orbit chuckled a little too hard, "I'm
not getting younger."

Orbit gulped as he tried to remain calm and cool, but he wasn't built for this, he was just a soldier, not one of any special talent at that. He was definitely not a spy or anything of the kind. Even the act of lying itself was more difficult than Orbit could have imagined, he just wasn't designed this way.

Familiarizing himself with Commenor. Socializing. All of that was easy to believe. She figured that's what most of her staff did on their time off. Head off to the bars, nightclubs and pubs. But it was what [member="Farlon Orbit"] said afterwards, not to mention how very uncomfortable that he was getting; it all made her wonder if he was lying. There was no easier book to read than Kay's face. She wasn't a good liar either. Yet here Farlon was, lying to her for reasons that she didn't know yet.

She had heard rumours of a secret underground exotic club with dancers, one that was even a virtual clone of her that was quite popular. Her Head Engineer told her about it. Perhaps Farlon was going there. "You seem a little nervous though. Unless of course you just don't want to let me know what you're really up to. That's fine. I mean, I have no right to pry in anyone's personal life. My own life is scrutinized so much. You should just go and enjoy yourself. I anticipate that I'll probably be here when you get back." It wasn't like she had plans to go anywhere for a bit yet.

Orbit sighed, he knew that he was overthinking the queen's investigation into his private matters. He was just terrible at this whole investigation business, even if it was something as simple as what it was. All he had left to do was just leave, and get what knowledge he needed, quickly. This was an important matter to him, he wasn't some man who could be bought for hire by any slimo with two credits to his name, he was a man of morals, ones he wished to keep. Besides, if he got it done fast enough, he might still have time to socialize, maybe even pickup a girl.

Orbit nodded in acknowledgement of the last sentence, "Thank you madam, just a little rusty on the social skills is all." Orbit flashed an unpracticed grin and left with a proficient bow. That was a hodgepodge, but at least he got out. Walking down the hallways to his quarters then the speeder bay, he tried his best to remain conspicuous, but his mission made him nervous. It wasn't something he was used to, being an infantryman and all, but he tried his damn best. Using his permissions as a royal guard, he checked out an official speeder wearing a cloak over civilian clothes. It wasn't long before he was speeding off towards the Commenorian country side.

Kay gave [member="Farlon Orbit"] a small smile as he remarked on his lack of social skills being the reason for his nerves. Given what little she knew about him, it was entirely possible that that was the reason. "Not to worry. Have a good few days off. I'll see you when you get back." She returned to her paperwork knowing full well that her workload would only grow in time.

Chasin City was a jewel on Commenor, one of it's more populated areas. Outside of it were the Twin Canyons, Rock Point Bay, the Eldritch Mountain range, and of course the valleys. It was in these smaller of pockets of populations in the valleys that Farlon headed his speeder through. As he drove by, people took notice of the official speeder and wondered just what was going on. Was he on official business? Were they in danger? The man was alone, so it didn't seem so. But still, they were curious.

Orbit throttled the speed on his land speeder as he exited the city limits, no longer needing to worry about the Chasin City authorities stopping him for going over the limit. As he crossed the countryside, rain began to spatter across the ground, only growing stronger as he sped towards his lead. Orbit only held onto his speeder tighter than before, trying to focus on his mission, to ensure he was working for the right side this time. This was of the upmost importance, he could not work for someone with wrong intentions, not again, not ever again. The soldier had done too much wrong in this galaxy, he wanted to bring good this time around.

Slowly, he decreased the speed of the land speeder as he approached his target, a small township within the valleys. As he traveled down the main path, he looked around, trying to identify a residence. Recognizing one of the residences from a picture on the holonet, he sped his way on the path to the house. Climbing off, he noticed how the home seemed isolated from the rather scraggily residential area of this small populace center. Orbit rasped on the door, staying silent. He could hear someone approaching, but the door was not opened. Now Orbit spoke, "Open the door please, I only wish to talk." No answer from inside, Orbit sighed. Now he had to take out the badge.

The man inside the home didn't move to open it. Instead he just peered through the curtain adjacent to it, studying [member="Farlon Orbit"] as he stood outside the door. "Whattya want? I ain't got nothin' to talk about."

Farlon wouldn't see much of the man, as inside the home it was dark. Only a plume of smoke from the chimney gave any indication that there could be someone inside. The man's eyes and high cheekbones were all that could be seen. He was short, that much was certain. But other than that, one couldn't tell if he was fat, thin, or somewhere in between.

Orbit took out his identification card and showed it to the window, "I'm apart of the Commenorian Royal Guard, is this the house of the brother of High Councilman Boors?"

Orbit hoped this man would open the door willingly, he was his only lead, and he wasn't willing to force information out of him. If he wouldn't say anything, than Orbit would be back where he started. Orbit needed to know what happened to those missing Councilmen, and he needed to know if [member="Lady Kay"] played a part in it.

His eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at the ID card. Or maybe he was squinting? After a moment or two, his face pulled away from the window. Seconds later the sounds of many locks unlocking were heard before the door would open a little. "Come inside. Quickly now." He wasn't anywhere to be seen in the dark room. It wasn't until [member="Farlon Orbit"] was inside that a light would go on."And shut the door behind you."

Councilman Boors was indeed short, a mere 4'8". His hair was stark white, long and curly, left loose around his shoulders. He could either be visualized as really wise, or a clown. "What does the Royal House want with me now? Pulling me out of my forced retirement?"
