With the integration of the Remnant into the Empire, comes a demand for higher protection of VIPs than the Elite Stormtrooper can suffice. Thus the Royal Guard came once more into prominence as a dual internal security force and a solution for external threats.
The Praetor of the Royal Guards has direct control over them, answerable directly to the head of the Empire.
Beneath the Praetor are the Sentinels, commanders within the Royal Guard and promoted based on outstanding service to the Empire. They are extremely capable leaders.
In the upper echelons of the Guard are the Sovereign Protectors. There are a bare handful of them. They serve a variety of roles from assassination and sabotage to internal security, but are generally granted a large amount of autonomy.
The common Guard chiefly acts as a glorified security guard... if security guards are supercommandos with training in the Echani Arts.
Aptly named, the Shadow Guard are a nearly seperate order. Their primary role is threat elimination of targets outside the Empire. Their current number is a closely guarded secret.
