DESCRIPTION |
The High-Altitude Entry Transport-231 was designed by Aether Systems to provide the Galactic Alliance with a much-needed assault airspeeder that its forces were lacking. Developed and produced in line with the ongoing standardization program, the HAET-231 is a gunboat that is capable of being deployed from low orbit where it utilizes positional rockets to reach its destination. The vehicle was equipped with an additional shielding generator to provide adequate protection against the heat and friction of reentry without diminishing its defensive capabilities, a feature that was lacking in previous iterations which often burned through their shielding system on reentry. Compared to its predecessors, the HAET-231 is much more heavily armed, incorporating a Mass Driver Cannon in place of a large anti-vehicle laser cannon, and replacing two of its anti-personnel blasters with ordnance launchers. However, this has resulted in the vehicle relying much more heavily on physical munitions and ordnance, greatly reducing its operational times as it must frequently return to base to resupply. Likewise, it has a limited operational ceiling, and once deployed on a planet, cannot reach beyond the lower stratosphere. This means that the vehicle must be ferried back into orbit to be deployed on another planet or dropped to another target location. Despite some of its shortcomings, the HAET-231 is an effective gunship that would provide the Galactic Alliance a means to further support its ground forces when faced with heavy opposition or requiring a targeted area be struck with a surprise assault. With the war between the Galactic Alliance and the Dark Empire ongoing, many of these vehicles have been produced and smuggled to the front lines, dropping on unsuspecting enemies and turning the tide of battles. |
