STRENGTHS
- From Hell's Heart: The Harpoon is designed to strike at the meat of enemy vessels, and is quite agile for a boarding craft, able to evade fire well, or take a hit when it can't.
- Herald: The Harpoon can either carry troops, or deploy chemical weapons inside the vessel after it has latched on.
WEAKNESSES- Unarmed: The Harpoon possesses no ship to ship weapons whatsoever, and cannot defend itself in any way except fleeing should it be caught alone.
The HKK modular boarding craft is designed for a simple purpose: get troops or chemical deterrents inside an enemy vessel.
It accomplishes this through the direct method of launching itself at breakneck speed towards enemy vessels, moving in a manner more consistent with an oversized torpedo than a ship. The boarder is more than agile for its size, and its droid-brain-piloted frame is capable of evading most point-defense arrays with ease. Should it be struck, however, it is also heavily shielded and armored, capable of absorbing heavy flak fire even if it fails to evade.
Should it reach its target, the large impervium-edged spikes that form the front of the craft will typically pierce the hull. From there, plasma cutters along the inside will slice open the hull, and the spikes will unfold, deploying a number of droids inside. Alternatively, the droid will instead deploy a large quantity of blue phosphorus, causing substantial damage to the immediate area inside, poisoning or burning personnel and destroying delicate internal systems. It goes without saying that the droid's deployers must determine which it will carry, as it cannot transport both at once.
Most interestingly, unlike most boarders of a similar construction, the vessel is capable of taking off again when it has deposited its cargo, returning to its parent starship to make another round, and another, if it is not stopped.
Though deployed in fairly small squadrons, these vessels can nonetheless rapidly become a serious nuisance, as over time they can deliver substantial quantities of hostile droid troops or noxious chemical weapons. If enough manage to imbed themselves, or take enough round trips, most vessels can be overthrown or poisoned from the inside.
However, the Harpoon is a specialist support craft, and as such carries no armaments proper. If forced away from its flight path, it will typically have no choice except to flee.
