LIVE:

“This is Holly Starstorm reporting for HNN’S Sixty Holo Minutes! Today we are joined by a military expert Noah Corek . We will be discussing the dynamics or both private and public military ventures. You won’t want to miss this exciting episode so keep those dials tuned to HNN!”

NOT LIVE:

The floor manager yelled cut and the production team brought out the bottles of water for Holly and her guest. She assumed he was in wardrobe now and would be brought our any moment.

Noah sighed and reclined in a chair in the dressing room, eyes gazing up at the ceiling as he waited to be called on to do the interview he himself had volunteered for. His leg bounced incessantly as he began to formulate the questions that the interviewer, Holly Starstorm , might ask him.

Here was a man who had killed scores of people, faced down rabid hordes of fanatics, could end a sentient's life through a scope from two kilometers away and yet it was an interview with someone he could easily take in a fight that made him nervous.

NOT LIVE:

“Mr. Corek? They are ready for you on set.” The assistant showed Noah to the set where Holly was already seated. She stood to greet him, extending her hand in welcome.

“Mr. Corek its so nice to meet you. I am sure our legal team already explained that we are a non partisan group who isnt here to make you look good or bad. We are just here to get facts for the galactic citizens. At any time you can stop the interview. Do you have any questions before we get started?”

Noah's head rotated to meet the assistants gaze and gave them a smile before standing, smoothing out his simple light green button up and jeans before following them out to the set. He gave Holly Starstorm a smile and extended his own hand to meet hers, giving it a firm shake before seating himself in the chair across the desk from her.

"Please, just call me Noah. I feel even older being called 'Mr. Corek' by almost anyone." He nodded when she brought up their legal team, they had indeed talked to him. "Trust me Ms. Starstorm, I did my research on your organization, your honesty, transparency and non-partisan stance is one of the few reasons I decided to accept the interview. As for questions, none come to mind."

NOT LIVE:

“Excellent. We will get started shortly.”

A few tech people came out and fussed with microphones, and made sure there was water present, before dashing back off set. When the floor man gave the signal the cameras started rolling.

LIVE:
“Welcome to another episode of Sixty Holo Minutes. I am Holly Starstorm reporting for HNN. Today we are joined by Noah Corek from Hekler'Kok Defense Industries. Welcome to the show Noah. Why don’t you start by telling our viewers a little about yourself and providing some information on Hekler'Kok Defense Industries.”

Noah rolled his shoulders and smiled at the words Holly Starstorm spoke to calm him down. He allowed himself to be microphoned and took a small sip of water before the floor man signaled that they were lived.

He smiled at the reporter once the cameras began rolling and nodded along to her words, giving a deeper nod in greeting when she mentioned his name. "Thank you for having me Holly. As for myself I'm a veteran of several different military organizations, both public and private, a Mandalorian, a husband and a father. As for Hekler'Kok Defense Industries we are a defense contracting company that produces, markets and sells everything from bullets to body armor to armored vehicles. My position in the company is majority share holder, chief executive officer and lead design technician. Besides that I'm also the current commandant of the Galactic Foreign Legion, a private military corporation."

LIVE:

“That is quit the resume! There is some debate over the merits of a private military vs a government owned one. Can you speak to this?”

Noah took a sip of water as Holly Starstorm spoke and then smiled and nodded at her words, placing the glass down on the table.

"I actually find myself in a pretty good position to speak on the subject. I cut my teeth as a commando in the Galactic Republic army, then moved onto contracting work with the Omega Pyre private military contractors. From there I bounced between public and private military's until I went into my current semi-retirement. As for the debate between which one is more effective...that depends on the situation you're going into..."

“As you know it is a controversial topic. What would you say to those that fear private militaries might be used to overthrow governments?”

Noah chuckled and shook his head at her words, more at the absurdity of them than at Holly Starstorm .

"I'd say they're watching too many holo-dramas and such. The facts of reality Holly are that many private military corporations rely on governments, either local, planetary or galactic, for some rather lucrative contracts. In fact the highest paying contracts that PMC's usually receive are from government sources and with PMC's being profit businesses many wouldn't want to risk that big of a financial loss."

“It makes a lot of sense when you put it like that and hopefully that will ease the mind of our viewers. Is there any other information you would want viewers to have?”

"Honestly I would just like the people of the galaxy to realize that even though we are PMC's that were are still people too. Most of the people who join the Legion aren't bloodthirsty and crazed mercenaries, we weed those out through stringent background checks and psychological evaluations. At the end of the day we're just people looking to make a honest living for ourselves and our family."

“That was very well stated and hopefully our viewers take those words to heart. To put their minds at ease could you elaborate on the background or psychological evaluations that your company performs?”

"Of course Holly. First we start with a standard background check by using the applicants name, any alias' that they go by and take a genetic sample and run them through every criminal conviction database we have access to. Anyone with prior convictions for violent, exploitative, abusive or organized crimes are flagged. From there we have teams of psychologists, psychiatrists and criminologists who interview them and either sign off or reject them."

“That sounds very comprehensive. Are the psychologist trained to look for racism or xenophobic tendencies? Are there any annual evaluations to make sure new disorders are not developed?”

"Thank you, we're proud of just how comprehensive and thorough our recruitment standards are. The psychologists are trained to look for a wide variety of disorders that would not only hinder combat effectiveness but unit cohesion and general populace interaction, so yes xenophobia and racism are two big factors they look for. We don't conduct annual but quarterly evaluations, both mental, emotional and physical to make sure that Legionnaires are still up to snuff per se."

The director yelled cut and people started scattering to remove mics and props. Holly thanked Noah for coming and then assistants came to escort him out of the HNN building. She headed back to her office to catch up on the stack of paperwork left to do!
