- Communication capability: The biometric monitoring implant can be connected to compatible accessories such as holoprojectors or personal communication devices to make audio and video calls with multiple participants as long as those participants are also equipped with Beems and a compatible device.
- Identify friend-foe: Beem implants loaded with Grutter Norr Ryk military operating systems have the additional role of acting as an identify-friend-foe system, which dramatically reduces the risk of friendly fire and the effectiveness of physical disguises to be non-existent.
- Navigation system: When a Beem user connects their device to a local network or mainframe and has an appropriate accessory, they can use holoprojectors to create navigation lines to help them reach a desired destination.
- Operating system: Beem implants can be loaded with different operating systems; it is common to find implants running on other proprietary firmware.
- Unique identifier: Each Beem's implant has a unique interstellar identification number corresponding to and identifying the user; the government can use this in coronial matters to identify unknown remains or track an individual specific user. Additionally, with compatible communication accessories, this 'unique identifier' is the analogue to a person's 'number'.
- Biometric Monitoring: Beems monitors nervous system activity to determine if a user is in physiological distress and when combined with the surveillance matrix or connected to another similar communication network used to identify medical emergencies or pain.
- Telemetry Tracking: One of the features of the Biometric Monitoring System implant is it can be synched to local mainframes at the user's will, where it can share telemetry data; ergo, one's employer or the government using the biometric monitoring system can track the movements of the implanted subject using infrastructure such as the surveillance matrix.
- Security Clearances: Security clearance levels can be assigned by an employer to the Beem implant's unique implant identifier number; this helps prevent unauthorised persons from accessing restricted areas or information; thanks to the surveillance matrix, these security clearances can be updated in real-time dramatically enhancing security, this alleviates the security risk presented by traditional code cylinders. It's not sufficient to dress up in the armour of a Ryk soldier and try and sneak onto one of the Ryk's bases.
- Identifier: The 'Beems' implant can be taken as prima facie evidence that the implanted individual is a citizen or soldier of the Grutter Norr Ryk, as their public safety legislation requires all adults by law to receive an implant.
- One-way street: Surgical removal of the implant is delicate and risky, requiring extraordinary precision that typically requires a droid or machine to perform the procedure instead of a physical surgeon; botching the surgery can damage the user's motor controls.
The Hololink implant is a biometric monitoring device or 'Beems' as it is commonly known in Galactic Basic Standard, is a few centremetres diameter implant that is surgically attached to the base of a Norr subject's spine and the spinal cord which it uses to connect to their nervous system, it appears as a metallic vaguely rectangle disc at the base of the spine that sits flush with the user's skin, the cover can be removed revealing a concealed connection port for accessories. This implant is ubiquitous with citizens of the Grutter Norr Ryk who are required by law to have one implanted once they become adults. The implant interfaces directly with individual's thoughts and they can use the implant and any connected accessories with their thoughts as opposed to a physical user interface. The implant's biometric health monitoring functions by taking a baseline of the subject's brain activity at different states and then compares it with states of arousal and the signals sent to and from the brain through the spinal cord. The implant can determine the severity of an injury and update the local surveillance matrix with this information or any compatible display accessory. The implant was designed for the Norr's robust and formidable nervous system but can be adapted to work with baseline Human physiology.
