A humongous ship built to house the Cathar people should the worst happen to their planet and peoples. The Cathar have long been subject to slave raids, bombings, and other factors that threaten their home throughout their history. With stability a distant dream, several prominent members of the community and friends to the Cathar people banded together behind the idea of creating an ark to carry their people, culture, and significant flora and fauna into the stars. After completion, the Hope of Cathar was given into the care of Si Tech with the understanding that it was for the benefit of all Cathar, no matter clan or creed.
The Hope’s slender profile is dominated by eight giant City-Trees that grow from the ship and seemingly into space. Though mere bonsai trees by Cathar standards, these represent a possible future and regrowth on any suitable planet after a potential disaster. They’re sustained by numerous systems dedicated to caring for their roots throughout the ship and are protected from space by a magnetic field that holds them in warmth and the proper atmosphere. Tensor fields work in conjunction with the extended inertial dampener to stabilize and support the trees’ mass during maneuvers and pressor fields simulate winds to stimulate strong growth.
Also quite prominent are the many ecological domes imitating the different biospheres of Cathar from the Veldt grasslands, uplands, and even jungles. Lining the interior of the domes are many holographic generators that can simulate natural sky and day/night cycles for those within, while mimicking natural light needed for plants and animals within. Each biome is replicated two to three times across the ship and are kept in strict isolation from one another, with visitors going through decontamination before entering and on exiting to prevent contamination or sickness from spreading through the domes. This also allows finer tuning between predator and prey populations as well as safe environments for children and less experienced visitors.
The rest of the ship is given over to normal ship things with an emphasis on living space as the Hope is meant to house many families and visiting students along with the biologists and caretakers that keep the project healthy. One oddity is that while the command, engineering, and tower sections of the ship conform to the normal vertical level layout of most ships, the central body of the ship is wrapped around itself. Up is out for this section of the ship, providing a stable surface for the massive biomes and trees emerging from the ship’s exterior so they consider themselves the right way up despite their placement around the ship’s exterior.
