PRODUCT INFORMATION
Manufacturer: House Tregessar and Shadowline
Model: Variable Environment Combat Assault Suit (VECAS)
Affiliation: House Tregessar
Modularity: Limited, see below
Production: Minor

Material: Duraplast, Armorweave, Flex-Armor.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Classification: Heavy Assault Body Armor
Weight: 19kg

Quality: Class 8

  • Energy Resistance: Significantly better than average, due to the triple-layer protection. This extends to defense against lightsabers, meaning that while it does not approach the resiliance of Beskar, a quick slash will likely not strike a killing blow, especially against the more heavily plated areas. The thermal gel, fire-resistant coating, climate control system, and heat sinks gives a very high protection to flame based weapons and fire.
  • Kinetic Resistance: Like classic Stormtrooper armor, effectively immune to conventional ballistics, particularly the heavy plated areas. Duraplast offers moderate levels of protection against even shattergun rounds. Though the armor is extensively padded, extremely high levels of kinetic force will still injure the wearer even if it doesn't break the armor.
  • Sonic Resistance: The presence of sonic dampening material and several layers of fabric gives the armor respectable protection against concussion weapons and their variants. As its not a commonly used weapon though, this was not a high priority area. The helmet does include significant sonic modulators and the like, of course.
  • Melee/Shra pnel Resistance: High due mostly to the materials used. The armor does make some nods to the reality of assault troops engaging in close combat, and the lack of dense plating on the joints to preserve flexibility is the foremost example.
  • EMP/Ion Resistance: Extensive on the helmet, limited elsewhere, but also not a huge concern. Combat De-Ionizers tend to make most disablement due to ion fire a short-term concern.

Special Features:

  • Climate Controlled, Hermetically Sealed All-Environment Suit

  • [Helmet] Military HUD w/ squad-level Tactical Datalink

  • [Helmet] Standard Encrypted Comm Suite

  • [Helmet] Standard Imaging, Nightvision, and IR Suite (Flash Resitant Visor, Range Finder, Floodlights, etc).

  • [Helmet] Built in Advanced Combat Scanner and Target Acquisition Suite

  • [Helmet] Encrypted Low-Frequency Target Designation Laser

  • EVA Equipment (magnetic boots, oxygen supply, rebreather, etc)

  • Integrated Utility Belt w/ Combat De-Ionizer, Energy Sinks, ammo pouches, optional personal shield, other miscellaneous gear.

  • Built-in Wrist vibro/anti-security blade (attached to dominant hand).

  • Wrist-mounted secondary HUD display (attached to non-dominant hand).
Description: While the MSAS is probably the most iconic image of House Tregessar's security forces, authorities high within the house acknowledge that those troopers, while more than capable on the defensive, tend to lack offensive capabilities. Given the Tregessar's only thinly disguised expansionist ideals, it is only natural that a more aggressive unit should. These soldiers are known as the Assault Guards, and their equipment is a step above that of the regular troops.

Assault Guard Armor (properly termed the Variable Environment Combat Assault Suit) is first and foremost a fully hermetically sealed all-environment suit, giving the soldiers a level of adaptability the conventional troops lack. Typically as for Tregessar-made armor, the equipment starts with an armorweave bodyglove. The initial armor layer is worn over this, and consists of thin Flex-Armor plates with several components in-between. These include Sound-Dampening Overlays, Anti-Ion Mesh, Thermal and Kinetic Gel. This is all woven in to what resembles a fabric jumpsuit made of a heat-resistant textile and armorwave composite. Worn over this are several large pieces of Duraplast plating.

In contrast to security forces MSAS, the VECAS is worn as one suit, and contains a number of advanced electronic components. The helmet contains an advanced HUD with sensors connected to much of the armor and is able to monitor the integrity of the suit, up to whether or not it has been environmentally compromised. Additionally the helmet contains an extensive suite of imagery assistance devices and tactical support gear. Most significantly, the helmet contains an advanced scanner and target acquisition suite. While this has resulted in the headpiece being somewhat bulky, it does mean that Assault Guards often get the drop on their opponents, and getting the first shot off can be the difference between victory and defeat. Being the most advanced piece of electronics, it is well-shielded against EMP and Ion weaponry.

An integrated utility belt with Energy Sinks, Combat De-Ionizers, an optional personal shield, and a number of smaller attachments is wrapped harness style around the waist and thighs. The armor also contains a host of other features necessary to include in any all-environment suit, like magnetic boots, climate control, and integrated heat sinks.

The tri-eye design of the helmet includes an interesting feature, which is a medium-frequency laser capable of acting as guidance for certain Tregessar weapons and vehicles, including the Javelin missiles from the Aries Strike fighter. It is invisible to the naked eye and activated by voice or touching the secondary wrist display. The secondary display can pull up a small-holo tactical display (loaded ahead of time or built over time by integrated systems) and used to give commands to all members of a squad or platoon. Officers can coordinate over company and battalion sized levels, though it quickly becomes more efficient to simply use a dedicated command and control display.

VECAS is rather heavy and while not overly restricting of movement it is fatiguing to use over long periods of time. Given that the Assault Guards are assault troops rather then defensive, this was seen as an acceptable trade-off.

An officer variant looks very different but is functionally the same except where noted.

Strengths:
  • Advanced Scanner and Target Acquisition Suite: Kill them back, first.
  • Extensive Protection: Better than your average Stormtrooper.
Weaknesses:
  • Lack of Specialized Protection: VECAS is simply not designed to fight against the more unique weapon systems and abilities in the galaxy. It tends to perform adequately simply because of the materials its made with, but this ain't your Jedi-killing armor.
  • Weight: The VECAS is bordering on being heavy armor, and while well-designed and supported it still takes a toll on the user over extended periods of time.
