Prince of Parrlay

"We don't inherit Naboo - we audition for her favor every generation. And I intend to leave a performance they'll never forget."
- Aurelian Veruna, House Veruna

Intent: To flesh out a political noble house with historical roots and current influence within the Naboo system. House Veruna will serve as a political player in RP involving the Royal Naboo Republic, its Assembly, trade, and interplanetary diplomacy.

Description: House Veruna is a resurgent noble family of Naboo, clawing their way from disgrace into newfound political and economic influence. Once nearly ruined by scandal and exile, they now thrive through control of vital agricultural exports and strategic diplomacy. House Veruna walks a knife's edge between honor and ambition - delivering wine with one hand and wielding political leverage with the other.
They are experts in subtle rebranding: aristocrats of the "people," stewards of the land, and quiet titans in the Royal Assembly. Whether they're adored or merely tolerated depends on the room - but no one can deny they're back in the game.

Headquarters: Parrlay, Naboo
Domain:
House Veruna holds considerable sway over the city of Parrlay and the surrounding outer estates of Naboo. Their economic power stems from their grain and wine trade via the moon Veruna, a privately administered port They are deeply embedded in the cultural life of Parrlay and have wormed their way back into Theed society, albeit with whispered skepticism.
Relations with the local populace vary. On Parrlay, they are celebrated as patron nobles. In Theed, they are often seen as "nouveau-honorable" - glamorous, useful, and potentially dangerous.
Notable Assets:
- Port Veruna: An orbital trade station and shipping hub primarily for Naboo's agricultural exports.
- The Veruna Estates: Sprawling vineyards, biodome greenhouses, and banquet halls, all located in Parrlay's outer territories.
- The House Gallery: Operated by Aurelian's mother, this art house and political salon doubles as a cultural front and elite networking venue.

Hierarchy:
- Patriarch: Remus Veruna
- Heir Apparent / Senator: Aurelian Veruna
- Matriarch / Art Dealer: Saphira Veruna
- Trusted retainers, economic stewards, and "cultural aides".
Membership is strictly bloodline or marriage-in. Suitors are vetted with extreme prejudice - beauty, influence, ambition, and tasteful tailoring are all considered. Outsiders may gain patronage, but not the name. OOC: DM

Climate:
Elegant but cold, with the permanent scent of polished stone, imported wine, and political scheming. Internally competitive but outwardly cordial. Trust is currency. Betrayal is strategy.
Reputation:
To allies: visionaries restoring old glory with clever charm and competent governance.
To critics: a snake pit in silk. Everyone knows they have been punching above their weight - and suspects they're still climbing.
Curios:
Members wear signet rings bearing the House crest. Higher-ranking family often carry antique goblets etched with planetary coordinates - symbolic heirlooms and, allegedly, secure authentication tools in secret transactions.
Rules:
- Never forget the Fall.
- Always act with grace before force.
- Nothing is ever personal. It's just power.
- Legacy is earned with every generation.
- Whisper first. Speak second. Act last.
- Secure a larger presence in the Royal Assembly.
- Expand agricultural trade beyond Naboo and Plooriod III.
- Redeem and elevate the Veruna name to system-wide nobility.
- Prepare Aurelian for eventual ascension as Head of House - and maybe more.

- Aurelian Veruna – Senator of Plooriod III, Heir Apparent
- Remus Veruna – Patriarch, former military official, now behind-the-scenes advisor
- Saphira Veruna – Matriarch, art dealer, cultural diplomat (and unofficial intelligence collector)

House Veruna, once a crown jewel in Naboo's noble constellation, saw its legacy nearly extinguished in the political aftershocks of 33 BBY. Then aligned with House Tapalo in a disastrous campaign to marginalize the native Gungans, House Veruna's schemes were exposed, leading to a scandal so severe it stripped the family of nearly all influence and rendered their name anathema in the royal courts of Theed. Their estates were seized, their allies scattered, and the once-glittering Veruna crest was reduced to a cautionary tale whispered in the back rooms of power.
Rather than fade into total irrelevance, the remnants of House Veruna did what disgraced nobility do best: they adapted like particularly haughty cockroaches for centuries. Under the stewardship of successive patriarchs and matriarchs - most notably Lord Tiber Veruna and his grandson Remus - the family turned to Naboo's outer territories, establishing vineyards, grain silos, and trade networks on moon colonies like Veruna, their namesake. These ventures, especially in agricultural exports and artisanal goods, became the lifeline through which House Veruna bought its way back into polite society.
By the time Remus Veruna took the reins, the family had already reestablished a major port in Parrlay and controlled trade routes connecting Naboo's outlying settlements. Remus, shrewd and unbothered by morality, expanded these holdings with relentless pragmatism, leveraging both economics and political favors to edge the House back into Theed's noble assemblies. His wife, a calculating art dealer with a taste for rare offworld pieces and untraceable bribes, helped launder both funds and reputation.
Their son, Aurelian Veruna - the so-called "Promised Prince of Parrlay" - is the embodiment of this long game. Raised in privilege but under the shadow of ancestral disgrace, Aurelian has been groomed as the final stroke in his family's restoration. Trained in both diplomacy and military service, Aurelian was thrust onto the galactic stage as a political envoy to Plooriod III. His success there, secured House Veruna its most significant victory in centuries: legitimate senatorial power.
Now, House Veruna operates as a hybrid entity - equal parts old nobility, commercial consortium, and political machine. Their modus operandi is subtle influence: elegant bribes, economic leverage, carefully curated public image, and the occasional flash of military tradition when it suits their narrative. With their base in Parrlay, their port on the Moon Veruna, and their heir in the Royal Assembly, the House is no longer clawing for survival. It's preparing for ascension.
Officially, House Veruna is committed to Naboo's prosperity. Unofficially, they are committed to making sure Naboo's prosperity flows directly through them.
And if Aurelian has his way, House Veruna won't just reclaim its throne.
It'll build a bigger one.
