How do you run your Sub-Forums daily?

Everybody manages their Sub-Forums differently.

Some people use Announcements, News articles, and even the old Mass PM function. Some people just throw everything into a single "OOC" sub-forum and call it good. Indeed. Some people archive their faction discussions when they are over. Quick and clean. Some people don't know what archiving even is and can't be bothered for a measure of their time away from posting IC. Some people create Sub-forums for sub-factions and sub-groups for their sub-groups. Well. Some people just create a new Minor Faction every time they get a new idea to through effort at.

It's all gravy to me.

Yet still. Curiosity killed the cat. So it's Feedback Question time! Awoo!

  • Q: If you had to express your own personal approach or philosophy towards managing a Faction Board? What would it be?

  • Organization is key - a clean forum is a good forum.
  • Lock, don't archive. - Old discussions can still be relevant, even when the people who were in the faction then (or even the faction itself) is completely different from the present. Otherwise, hide the threads and unhide them when they're necessary to bring back to the forefront.
  • Don't pin topics that aren't 100% necessary to pin. That means don't pin your "Discussion on a new direction" or "XYZ Upcoming Dominion 6/8/16!". Too many pinned topics and it takes up space and detracts attention from the non-pinned topics.
  • Don't reinvent the wheel. - Everyone always says they want something new, but just like with chile and wings, everyone actually wants exactly the same-old same-old except done right or better than before. Put a twist on things, but don't kill yourself trying to be 100% different.
  • Keep faction staff minimal. Too many faction staff is unhealthy, some people will do barely any work, others might do a ton, but it'll be harder to keep everyone on the same page with 6 faction admins rather than 2 or 3.
