How Does One Become A Ruler?

I was curious, since I plan on making a noble. I believe the most notable places, such as theed, are chosen by the faction it's controlled by. Correct? To be honest, I have no interest in those kinds. However, I'd like a place similar with a good population. Would making a submission make this possible?

I am probably wrong. So don't take my word for it. But why not make you're own planet, make the government a Monarchy. And then have your char be...well the monarchy?

You roleplay it, plain and simple.

If you want something you work for it until you've got claim to it. Even if you don't have a major faction, you can generally have the weight to claim something as long as people recognize your character for it.

Just do an RP about you rising to power. Did you claim it by force? Coercion? Did you silently kill your rivals? Were you elected? Did you buy into it?

Most folks will recognize a solid RP.

Hire a mercenary army and take it by storm. Of course, do that with an unaffiliated planet. If you try to step in on someone's territory and seize their planet there's a good chance you may end up dead.
