GALACTIC ALLIANCE DEFENSE FORCES
If you’re reading this, you’ve decided you want to write a grunt. Magic and lightsabers aren’t for you. Instead, you want your rifle, your water canteen and to be pointed at the nearest hill to take.
Fair enough! Below is a bulleted list. Go through it one by one and you will be ready to defend the Galactic Alliance with pure grit in no time.
- Read the Overview section. This will give you an idea of what the GADF is about.
- Read the Groups section. This will point you to which active group you’ll fit in best, or if you’d prefer to start your own.
- Finally, Check the Structure section. This will let you know the ranking system and give you an idea of the sizes of troops you’ll potentially be in charge of In Character based on your rank.
CONTEXT
To be a member of the GADF is to defend the Galactic Alliance from all threats; external and internal. Aesthetically it borrows a lot from the Clone Troopers of the Galactic Republic, while some units also have their roots in the Rebel Alliance. However, this is only AESTHETIC as the Alliance has no State-Mandated clone army. Currently, clones are considered illegal, and recruitment is volunteer-based with many benefits for the soldiers from free housing, education, healthcare, and a guaranteed job program after honorary retirement.
The GADF is based out of Fort Bastion located in the Corellian System and maintains additional bases and command centers across GA space, including the current capital of Fondor. All recruits undergo a mandatory training period before being deployed into the field.
Our current Standard Issue Kit consists of many domestic GA companies and can be seen here in the War Manifest. All equipment from this manifest is free to use by the common soldier based on rank and job title.
The Galactic Alliance Defense Forces, or GADF is the combined military of the GA assigned as both the shield and spear of the Alliance's many worlds.
It consists of Two Branches:
The Navy, Focusing on Space and Atmosphere Superiority. The main sub-branches are:
- The Marines: The forward arm of the Navy. Acting as boarding troops and Orbital Drop Troops, securing a foothold for the army.
- The Starfighter Corps: The Ace Pilots of the GADF, with several elite squadrons held within, including Revenant and Misfit.
- Officer Corp: The men and women in charge of the biggest ships in the Navy.
- The Infantry: The biggest branch in all of the GADF, The Infantry are highly trained men and women and the best in the galaxy at what they do.
- The Armor Corp: The big boys of the battlefield. Leading the charge with heavy walkers and tanks.
- The Pathfinders: The elite first boots on the ground and the scouts of the GADF. Designed to lead the way for the heavy units of the GADF.
While PSFs still do constitute pieces of the larger whole, the GADF is the primary force to defend against external threats to the GA’s worlds.
The GADF consists of many smaller units and divisions. Organized between the Army and the Navy, different levels of command are offered to different ranks.
Below you can find examples of the NAVY’s current active groups:
- Revenant Squadron ~ The premiere best of the best starfighter pilots in the GADF.
- Misfit Squadron ~ A ragtag group of starfighter pilots, the newest group in the navy.
- 10th Sector Armada, Dawnflower Star ~ The personal armada of Supreme Commander Von Sorenn, consisting of some of the largest ships in the GADF Navy, and acting as one of many heavy fleets ready to engage the enemy.
- Nova Corps ~ One of many Divisions within the GADF Marine Corps, the finest troopers in the Galaxy.
- The Hellstompers, 34th Walker Battalion ~ The elite armor unit of the GADF, led by Gress D’ran, acts as the heavy support unit of the GADF.
- 3rd Mechanized Infantry ~ A specialized shock trooper unit designed to do missions deemed too unfeasible for any sane soldier. The tightly knit unit is designed to punch through enemy lines and clear objectives with brutal efficiency.
- 2nd Armor ~ A group of well-worn GADF tankers, acting as a fast attack tank unit that can engage enemy armor in tank-on-tank combat.
- 76th Pathfinders ~ A group of crack scouts, trained in guerilla warfare and reconnaissance, this unit is designed to breach behind enemy lines, and act as a unit of sabotage and forward observation before the heavier units of the army move in.
STRUCTURE:While the following ranks are mostly for flavor, as you are not required to move up the ranks from private upward, we on staff do encourage you to use the rank structure for some level of consistency in your writing, EI, giving a higher ranking soldier more respect, and using the ranks as a guide for character progression. Ranks with an * require staff approval first.
Upon completion of the mandatory training period, graduates are permitted the opportunity to choose their futures in the GADF. For Flight Cadets, this option is between the Navy or the Starfighter Corps. Likewise, for Recruits, they may choose between joining the Army or the Marines.
