How to stop a lightsaber with your hand... Kinda (Open)

Valdra remembered when he was a bright eyed Padawan and wanted to learn how to stop a lightsaber with his hand. He winced as he remembered that only led to his sister shooting him. He decided to open a class to learn Tutaminis, but stopping a lightsaber was a very advanced form, but the basic version would come in handy for new comers and acolytes.

*Dust enters the training area, a large open area outside of the main building. The wind whips through his blond hair, which had grown much longer since he first met Darth Surtr, as he stands in front of the imposing figure of Darth Valdra. Dust stepped forward, bold but not arrogant.*

Dust: "I would like to begin training. Tutaminis would be a great asset to me and my master agrees on this."

*No questions. Dust left this as a statement. He had no particular fondness for the Sith Lord teaching tutaminis, but the Echani could teach him this technique and as such Dust showed him respect in his posture and tone. Valdra would see a tinge of reserve however as Dust would prefer to learn this from his own master. A man who had earned the respect of Dust, that level of respect had not yet come toward Valdra.*

Darth Valdra looked at the coming boy and his lip twinged. He listened to the bold boy speak about wanting to be trained and then laughed, "Aren't you the pleasant one, why would someone so pleasant want to learn to catch blaster bolts, you seem like you would be more suited for book reading and kissing boots." It was needless to say that Valdra used the word pleasant as sarcastic. The words Valdra used were meant to see if the boy was truly serious about this or just wanting to learn something he thought was cool. Valdra then used his speed to draw a blaster pistol set to a low seting that would only sting, but he didn't know this. He pointed it at the boy's head, "answer quickly or you may die."

*Within an instant Dust found himself being insulted. The half blood Echani's sarcastic tone grated on his ears and put a seed of anger in his mind; however, before Dust even had the chance to feel that anger he found a blaster aimed at his head.*

*An interesting demand causing Dust to require quick thinking. He looked at the Sith's eyes for a moment, seeing the dead look of someone corrupted by years of dark-side influence. He felt the influx of Valdra's emotion through his force empathy. Dust did not feel any hatred. No sense of sick pleasure. By all signs this was a test, but what kind of test. For that matter, if he got it 'wrong' what would be the outcome? Death? All this thought in a mere moment before Dust began speaking.*

Dust: "So that I can laugh in the face of any coward who hides behind a blaster with impunity."

*The personal attack directed at Valdra would be obvious. Dust wasn't exactly sure why Valdra would pull a blaster, but between the insults and this Dust was no longer sure if he wanted to learn any technique from this Sith. As Dust spoke he used his Force Empathy to influence the emotions of Valdra, he would subtly cause Valdra's emotions toward cowardice to reflect Dust's current opinion of the man. This was a Sith who could likely kill Dust with his bare hands and Dust knew it, but Dust doesn't care about power or useless words and posturing.*

My character obviously doesn't know exactly why your character has acted this way and as a result his personality will make him feel disrespectful toward yours until he sees the purpose behind your actions. He is also a bit of a sarcastic ass hole towards people he doesn't respect.

Darth Valdra could feel him trying to use the Force to find Valdra's intentions and so Valdra gave him what he thought he would find. He made the boy think he was influenced by the dark side when Valdra was a Sith Lord with a grey alignment. Most, maybe all sith were dark side which made Valdra different, made him unpredictable, almost dangerous. Then he heard such words come out of his mouth.

Darth Valdra laugh a little without opening his mouth and then he felt the Force of the boy again. Was the boy trying to make the prince who had no fear feel cowardess? Oh, this was too rich. He had a few choices, he could pretend it worked, but the boy would not learn. He could be very Sith Lordish and shoot the boy for his disrespect, but that wasn't Valdra. Instead Valdra thriwled the blaster on his finger and pulled it away as the laugh escaped his lips.

"You have guts, I will give you that. You will need guts to learn here. Though if you ever dare to talk to me that way again, I will show you why the Sith Lords fear my flames." He then leaned in and pulled a hand to his mouth like he was telling a secret and hiding it from others and then almost comically he whispered, "That means I will make you burn and I have been wondering what you would look like without eyebrows.

He then moved away to a table as he put away the gun and grabbed a tiny ball. He picked the button and clicked a button and held it in his hand with the Force as it emitted a laser field making it a plasma ball. "Ok, step one you need to understand what you are doing. Use the force and catch this, but don't touch it or it will burn you like a lightsaber." He then tossed it to the boy. " Now sit down and hold your arm directly in front of you. I want you to focus on holding the ball with the Force as close to your hand without touching as you can manage."

*Of all the reactions Dust might have expected, this was low on his list of possibilities. Force empathy was unlike many force abilities in that it wasn't really able to be defended against by using the force. Your emotions were readily available unless you changed your emotions, and the influence on your emotions could only be stopped by willpower if you were even able to notice the subtle change in feeling. The fact that this Sith was able to recognize the influence and combat it easily was a sign of his power and his lack of cowardice. All in all, the reaction and actions of Valdra had gained him respect in the eyes of Dust. He no longer had wish to disrespect the man, and his need to obtain the knowledge being taught by the man took over. He did not speak further, instead he listened to the words of Valdra and began doing as Valdra taught.*

*Dust held the ball away from his hand with the force successfully. He slowly moved it closer to his hand finding only one issue: the heat radiating from the plasma began to burn him if he held it too close to his hand with the force. He endured, feeling pain as he tried to maintain the ball a pencil's width away from his palm.*

Darth Valdra had a mastery over very few, but one was Force Sense so in relation he was very good with Force Empathy, but didn't like to use it due to his line of work. While it was incretabily hard to hide one's feelings and even harder to manipulate someone into believing something that wasn't true, this was a Lord to an Acolyte so it wasn't that hard. Force Empathy was able to be effected by the Force because anything from the Force was in the Force and could be changed through the Force. For a master of Force Sense this was even more true.

Valdra moved to the boy;s side and watched, he could see the boy fighting pain, but it still had too much distance. He let the boy fight the heat and then spoke, "Closer." A simple command, but it would be hard to follow and the boy would probably burn himself.

*Dust inched the ball closer to his palm. The pain was getting to normally unbearable amounts. Closer, closer, he could hear his skin start to sizzle. His hand was shaking from the pain, his mind was screaming at him to stop, but he couldn't. His body began working on overdrive, forgetting pain, he would suffer through, to learn. The ball of plasma was but the width of a piece of cloth shirt folded in half from his skin. The pain was next to unbearable and his palm was blistering from the burns being inflicted, but Dust endured.*

"Fight the pain, it is merely flesh that will heal, but the lesson will live on. close your eyes, use that Force Sense you have to truly feel the ball, find the plasma in the force and then make it the force, absorb it, know it." Darth Valdra knew he would not beable to do it because it was next to impossible to do, but it would bring understanding. He wouldn't beable to absorb it, but he would wonder why, it would lead to questions and these questions would bring him closer to learning the power that was Tatuminis which was beyond measure when mastered and the pain he felt now would seem useless, but when it came to mastering it one day it would make more sense if a lightsaber was coming at him and he had to stop it he would remember this.

*Dust was already loosely familiar with feeling things like energy in the force thanks to his use of Alter Environment. There he had to feel lightning in the force among other things to affect it, so when he was able to FEEL the force within the plasma he imagined the rest would be simple. He was wrong, as he tried to absorb the plasma in the force he found himself becoming exhausted as the plasma would not budge. The heat from the plasma was being absorbed successfully to a degree, reducing the pain and helping stop the burning, but the plasma itself resisted his attempts too heavily. Dust continued what seemed like a futile attempt, taking comfort only in the reduction of pain from absorption of heat, and even that took almost an hour to accomplish. As it stood, the ball of plasma remained slightly away from his palm, the skin was bubbled and burned heavily, and Dust managed little more than to absorb the heat before it could harm him further. That being said, he still tried to absorb the plasma, bringing him closer to the edge of exhaustion.*

"That is good enough, put down the ball before you lose your fun hand, the Force save a Galaxy from a boy who has lost his fun hand." Needless to say, Valdra was not the cleanest minded person around. He then sat down across from him and pulled out his pistol once again setting it to kill. "So you noticed something, plasma does not want to budge. "He then tossed his own gun to the boy. "But never the less, shoot me, that gun fires plasma like all blaster weapons."
[member="Jareth Johnathon Holst"]

*Dust dropped the ball. Just literally though, no metaphor on that one. Relief rolled across his body, and his hand began to hurt severely as the burn settled. Fun hand indeed.*

Dust: "So you weren't lying about making me burn I see."

*The half hearted humor escaped Dust's mouth before Valdra began speaking again. When the blaster was thrown Dust caught it in his left hand, sparing his right hand the pain of coming to contact with anything.*

Darth Valdra said:
"But never the less, shoot me, that gun fires plasma like all blaster weapons."
*Dust pulled the weapon up to sight it, aiming for center of mass he pulled the trigger letting loose a single plasma bolt.*

Valdra simply lifted his hand and absorbed the shot into a ball of energy that he quickly fired back like his hand was a gun. He hit the gun knocking it out of the student's hand and into the air. He quickly stood and grabbed the gun pointing it directly in the air. He then fired a round in the air, "Olay!" He spun his gun and holstered it. He then turned his attention back on the student. "Same plasma, but how was I able to absorb and no the answer is not because I am a Sith Lord."

[member="Jareth Johnathon Holst"]

*Dust was trying to formulate the reason in his mind. An answer to why that was possible but his attempts seemed like an impossible task. Perhaps it had to do with the way the plasma was being projected?*

Dust: "My best guess is that the plasma is in a different form which is more easily manipulated. Perhaps the reason why a lightsaber or the ball you had me practice on earlier are difficult to absorb is because they are stable projections that are held within a magnetic field which causes resistance to change that would make absorption of the energy almost impossible. That and they are projecting a circuit of energy, meaning you would have to absorb the entirety of the energy flow to have any effect, whereas the blaster shot is a loose bolt of plasma with a relatively low amount of energy comparatively. These are all guesses of course."

[member="Darth Valdra"]

"Exactly, but let me add that it is a problem in wording. Energy Absorbing is not the right phrase because you can't absorb it, but harness it. To absorb plasma would be very dangerous, something I would not even try, but some can. Now, we can move on to how you can do a low version of this and practice from there." He set his gun to stun, "use the Force creating a barrier in your your hands of concentrated particles and then use your instincts not your sight to predict where I will shoot." He then leveled his gun giving the boy a moment or two to prepare and then began firing giving 2 seconds between each shot.

*Dust began defending against the blaster shots. Predicting their location in the environment was not exceptionally difficult for him due to his primary aptitudes; however, catching them was another question as Dust had generally shied away from creating a shield in the force up to this point instead relying on intelligent and effective offense to cover up his defense. The plasma bolts were hitting his hand directly with little cushion at for the first couple of shots causing him severe pain and numbing his hand and arm. On the third shot he was able to partially block the bolt, dampening the damage it did to his hand but not much more.*

[member="Darth Valdra"]

Valdra watched as the boy practiced catching the shots. "The key is to wrap the blaster shot in the Force and control it, harness it." He put the gun away and summoned two droids with guns. Their shots would not kill, but would hurt greatly. Valdra set one to open fire on the boy, but not using rapid fire.

*Dust was in pain. He had been hit a variety of times, but with each blast he was one step closer to blocking the bolts. Wrap it in the force... This was the instruction given to him. He closed his eyes, feeling the next blaster bolt in the force. As it approached his hand he focused on controlling the loose plasma bolt. He created a field of the force around it, containing it and allowing him to stop its movement. There he stood, a blaster bolt frozen in stasis a hairs breadth away from his left palm. Dust had learned the basics, and he was ready to train on his own.*
