  • UP-ANN contains both the neuron and the receptor, as they work and exist together.
  • These are artificially created neurons and their associated Nociceptors ("pain receptors"), which can be implanted in any cybernetic, bionic limb, tissue, body part, not to mention the living organism.
  • Each UP-ANN is completely generic; that is, they can be planted in individuals of any sex, species, etc. The chances of rejection are completely minimal.
  • There are two versions, synthetic and organic:
    • Synthetic UP-ANN is made from artificial cells with bioengineering, so this version can be used both in organic / living implants, in the body and in artificial ones. In this case, an allergy may occur in the living tissue, it is very rare, but otherwise it will not cause any problems.

  • UP-ANN can be thoughtfully turned on and off; this is accomplished by attaching a portion of the UP-ANN neuron to the spinal canal, which is connected to the central nervous system, for perfect function.   • UP-ANN is able to regenerate to the same extent as a real neuron and receptor.
  • The pain and stimulus threshold always adapts to the body and cannot be adjusted manually or via thoughts. In the case of droids, the value of the highest pain is regulated in advance.

This time, the Brighter Future Foundation once again commissioned a project from the HPI Consortium; it was the UP-ANN project. As usual, when it comes to BFF, it is a rather medical project. There are countless injured and sick people in the Galaxy who have different cybernetic or bionic organs and implants. And in the case of lower quality ones, the owner feels nothing with them. And HPI and BFF wanted to change that.

After a long research and experimentation, a receptor and neuron called UP-ANN have been created from artificially and from artificially grown cells. Together, they work exactly like the real Nociceptor and its associated neurons. That is, receptors are able to sense surface effects in the same way as real ones, and neurons transmit this to the brain in the same way as other original neurons in the body.

However, UP-ANN knows more, because it is possible to mentally turn on and off the pain receptors on the affected part of the body / limb where UP-ANN is used. UP-ANN responds exactly like the real receptor and neuron, and just as vulnerable. However, even droids can use the artificial version and it has the effect as of being real sentient beings.

UP-ANN can be inserted into the body with simple, painless short surgery, local intervention, which can be performed by any doctor or droid. The same is true for replacement if they need to be replaced. There is no recovery time, in simpler cases on-site anaesthesia is sufficient. So it can be the perfect addition to any cybernetic / bionics if the user wants to feel, and live a full life again and forget that some of their "parts" have had to be replaced.
