Description: The SCR-3 was originally developed for the growing defense forces of the Techno Union's larger species, though the producers hope sales of the weapon reach beyond Techno Union space. The sonic rifle is based on the designs of the Geonosian sonic cannons, which were acquired after the Techno Union assault on the Rebel Alliance at Geonosis, and on the Stouker concussion rifle. The weapon's overall housing has been modified in a number of ways. Most importantly, the trigger guard and grip have been enlarged so that beings with bigger hands can now properly utilized the weapon. Furthermore, the weapon itself is the size of a light repeater, rather than a rifle, and resembles the LRK-1 sonic cannon in ability and range rather than the small arm version used by Geonosian infantry.
The rifle operates by firing a containment sphere of sonic energy. On contact the sphere bursts into an omnidirectional blast, which can rupture internal organs - though this may not be fatal as instances can range from mildly lethal (rupture in the gastrointestinal tract or appendix) to mortal (rupture of the heart or nasal cavity). While the weapon is on the scale of a light repeater, it sacrifices a larger energy bubble for a longer range.
Like the Stouker concussion rifle, this weapon has a secondary firing mode. When switched to the secondary mode, the rifle fires a concussion blast that has a splash damage radius of four meters and can send a grown human male flying. The effective range, however, drops down to thirty meters.
The SCR-3 has two prongs jutting from the undercarriage, which are equipped with energy bayonets that operate on the same principles as Tapani lightfoils. These weapons are common to the region surrounding the Herglic Trade Empire, but in order to save money the quality of the energy bayonets was reduced. They are moderately more effective at piercing armor than a vibrobayonet would be, but the main advantage comes from the ability to activate and deactivate them with a single button near the trigger. The button can be locked into place, leaving the three energy bayonets powered on, but this will drain the power cell much more swiftly.
The downsides of the weapon are many. It is large and bulky, making it unusable for most small to medium-sized species. The range of the weapon is pitiful in comparison to most blaster carbines. And it is far less useful against non-organics. The main advantage of the SCR-3 is stopping power and size.
It can be fired underwater, but results in a short-range conic projection of damaging sound waves rather than a sphere projectile.
