The Hugin-Basal is a Dovin-Basal subspecies that was grown and Shaped to be an analogue to the repulsor pack. Using the Dovin-Basal's specific ability to manipulate gravity fields, and cross-breeding it with Vonduun Skerr Kyrric, the Shapers of the Legion Yun’Do were able to create this small, yet slightly armored species of Dovin-Basal. It uses gravity fields in order to push and pull away from a planet’s gravity well, allowing for sustained flight in the same way a repulsor pack does.
It should be noted that during the Shaping process, the Vonduun and the Basal species were grafted and combined in such a way that the fabled protection offered by the Vonduun is not equal to what is empirically observed in the Hugin-Basal. While its armored hide can withstand its share of blaster shots, it won’t protect the creature from lightsaber strikes. It will, however, make for excellent camouflaging of the Hugin-Basal against the wearer’s back, provided the person is clad in Vonduun Skerr Kyrric, which holds true for nearly every Warrior or Hunter in the Legion Yun’Do. The creature wraps its legs around the user’s torso and interlinks them with those of the Vonduun, or with each other, if no Skerr Kyrric is present.
Through field testing, an interesting effect was observed as occurring in those who were subject to prolonged use of the Hugin-Basal; a mild disorientation, presumably caused by the person’s proximity to the gravitational field that the creature projects. It was posited that said fluctuations in the gravity field possibly affect the blood pressure of the wearer, leading to the aforementioned confusion. The effects seem to disappear with no detriment to the user’s health once the Hugin-Basal either stops manipulating the gravitational field, or once the individual has left said field by other means.
All in all, the Hugin-Basal is not some grand breakthrough in the Shaping field; it is merely a repulsor pack analogue to be used by the Yuuzhan Vong or other interested parties that prefer organic over ‘regular’ technology for whatever reason.
