Intent: A space-friendly, really cheap general labor and sociable droid with an innate interest in travel and discovery.
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: The Grand Temple of the Route
Model: Humanoid "Itinerant" model.
Affiliation: Many of them still live and work in Freehold, some of them work for the Temple, but typically in a mobile capacity.
Modularity: The face-plates are highly modular and customizable. Also, while not a modular feature, re-painting is common. There are three wrist mounted hard-points on each arm, often used for holding tools.
Production: Mass-produced, with over 6,000 models made.
Material: Duraplast, Heuristic Droid Brain,
Classification: Third and Fifth Degree
Weight: 132 KG without clothing or equipment
Height: 1.73 meters without shoes on.
Movement: Bipedal, with a walking speed comparable to a human, and a run speed slightly slower than the average human.
Armaments: Some of them carry small personal weapons, but there are none built-in.
Misc. Equipment: Detail-orient sensor package, heuristic brain, adaptive labor protocols, internal hydraulics, vocabulator capable of speaking Durese, Basic, and Binary. Basic piloting software.
Strengths:
Harder/Stronger: Designed with intensive labor in mind, the lifting power and power-efficiency of Itinerants is impressive.
Face to Face: The Itinerant was designed with negotiation and bargaining in mind, and has a sharp mind for making deals.
Around the World: Modeled after Durosian behavior and culture, the Heuristic program of the Itinerant is fond of travel, and seems to highly adaptive to spaceship environments.
Weaknesses:
One More Time: Sometimes, an Itinerant will develop odd routines or rituals based heavily on repetition and cleanliness.
Prime Time of My Life: Itinerants, as their nickname implies, are prone to getting cabin fever if they don't remain in either a frequent state of travel or changing duties, and will often decide to do things for the sake of adventure over practicality.
Doin' It Right: Itinerants have a tendency to dress and behave in ways that are pursuing some sort of perfection, but that goal of self perfection seems to differ wildly form one unit to the next. One will seek to be a great musician, another will search for the ultimate recipe. Itinerants often "quest" for reasons that make little sense even to themselves.
Description: Each model Five-oh and the Temple Craftsmen made attempted to emulate an organic society, so as to better understand both droid and organic thought. This particular lien of droids was made with the intent of imitating the role of Duros, a race of spacers and travellers. If the Ashigaru inherited human adaptivity and the Docent developed Ghostlings cunning from a place of fragility, then the Itinerant is heir to the Duros ideals of "I'm a traveler" and "I can do that."
Unlike the Ashigaru, who frequently change their bodies and self-modify, the Itinerants tend to modify only software and appearances, and those are often used to better perform their jobs. While a droid may jump positions and employers frequently, the Itinerant model tends to get very good at whatever it does, and then goes around doing it. Programmed with aid fro ma Durosian priest as the Temple, these droids have had their heuristic brains instilled with the Durosian self-identification of Traveler, and will frequently refer to themselves as such.
Of the droids made at the Temple, their ceremony of Manumission went slightly differently than previous models. When asked what they desired, the first one looked towards Five-oh and asked, "Why is that you are clothed and I am naked?" Perhaps because of this initial event, there is an emergent behavior in the first released models to wear human-like clothing, as shown above in the picture. While most of them dress appropriate for their job, it is rare to see damage on the clothing of an Itinerant type droid, and they seem to hold their uniforms in high esteem. They frequently say when asked on the subject that "the clothes make the Droid," or "Dress for the job you want." No one knows what this means.
