- +Turtle: Although being called the ‘Kraken’ Heavy Assault Walker, it could easily be considered a ‘turtle’ from the standpoint of its defensive staying power. From the dual armor layers composed of Impervium and Duranium with Duravlex coating, to the military grade deflector shields, missile disruption technology, and chaff systems; the HV-22W is a very solid armored assault walker, capable of surviving truly overwhelming amounts of punishment.
- +Missile Platform: Unique among tanks and other walkers, the HV-22W’s main armament is a pair of high yield missile launchers capable of unleashing massive amounts of ordinance; be it anti armor, incendiary, or high explosive munitions, paired with a military grade targeting and guidance system to allow for missile tracking against highly mobile targets.
- +Steady: Given its imposing size and aforementioned defensive systems, the HV-22W is the visual representation of a walker designed to anchor a steady, grinding advance. Very few things could prevent this walker from moving ever closer to its target, be it barricades, rough terrain, or stubborn defenders.
- +Hexapod: Containing six reinforced legs, one would think these would be a significant weakness to the Kraken. Yet, considering the heavy armor paneling reinforcing the legs themselves, the Kraken also has another trick up its sleeve to prevent itself from being easily immobilized. Should any of its forward or rear legs be disabled, the middle set of legs are installed upon transitional rails, allowing them to shift into place upon the damaged limb being ejected from the main hulk of the walker, meaning the Kraken is perfectly capable of performing with 5 or even 4 legs if necessary.
- +Omnivore: Although the Kraken is a ground-based vehicle, and is designed to fulfill the role of a heavy assault walker to support infantry and other armored platoons, the versatility of its weapon systems allow it to be highly effective against a variety of targets - rendering it a noted threat to armored targets, infantry, defensive emplacements, and aerial targets alike.
- +Rugged: The Kraken’s ability to weather damage has already been well established above, but it should be additionally noted that the HV-22W is specifically designed with hazardous and inhospitable environments in mind. Possessing durvlex coating upon its armor paneling, along with ray/particle shielding, vacuum seals, dedicated oxygen tanks and filters, & ECM shielding - the Kraken is ideally suited for deployment upon battlefields otherwise deemed unsuitable for other ground craft, even being able to brave the rigors of irradiated environments.
- -Slow: While not nearly as painstakingly slow as the famed ‘AT-AT’ vehicles of the ancient Galactic Empire, the Kraken could not be described as particularly fast - instead filling the role of a slow and steady anchor to an assault force as opposed to a fast and agile scout vehicle.
- -Predictable Gait Although the Kraken’s internal computer is intricately calibrated to allow for all six legs to move in concert, one downside to this is the predictability of the walker’s gait. While it may seem minute, it’s still worth noting as a weakness given the risk presented in setting up traps to impede its ability to keep moving.
- -Heavy: Given the exceedingly heavy armor the Kraken possesses, it is also known as a very heavy walker compared to other lighter variants. If lured into a trap wherein the threat of sinking or descending into a chasm presents itself, the forces of high gravity planets would surely work against it. It’s only defense against such a trap would be a series of grappling cables which can be shot out to attach to nearby rocks or terrain features. In theory, it could rappel itself back up to the surface in such a situation, but the process is very cumbersome and lengthy; leaving the Kraken particularly vulnerable to follow up attacks during said time.
- -Cramped: Although it possesses adequate space for its optimal crew to function with some level of comfort, it should be noted that this vehicle is not designed to ‘cater’ to passengers. This is a weapon of war, and if at max capacity, the level of relative ‘comfort’ afforded by such a vehicle drops significantly by simple virtue of space and proximity to one another.
- -Maintenance Intensive: In order for the mechanical assemblies of the Kraken to function properly, it should be noted that it thusly requires adherence to a regular maintenance schedule so as to ensure its leg synchronization and weapon systems function correctly.
DESCRIPTION
After expending many hours in research and development to finalize working concepts of this vehicle, along with the development of weapon systems to cater to its design intent, GDI eventually opted to move forward with the ‘Kraken’ program to release its rendition of a heavy assault walker. Designed with the rigors of warfare in mind, the Kraken is more than capable of adapting to a plethora of threats that habitually present themselves upon the battlefield. Conceptualized around the basis of missile technology, a large amount of the Kraken’s flexibility arises from the diversity of its missile loadouts, and the high efficacy of its ancillary weapon systems. Capable of decimating armored columns, discouraging persistent aerial threats, and mulching infantry formations, it's almost redundant to say that the nature of a battle would be irrevocably altered with the presence of a handful of HV-22W’s.
It’s never been easier to purchase products of such exceeding engineering and design, as GDI makes its latest releases available via its holonet terminal to sovereign nations and paramilitary organizations alike. So what are you waiting for?
