Born to a noble but impoverished family on Galidraan (the font of all Fortans), Hyacinth Oxford had a not very nice childhood, spent moving between wealthier relations with her siblings, until she was sent to a strict boarding school until the age of 18, at which point she was brought out into Society. She was married at the end of that first Season to a wealthy industrialist who taught her how to drink, how to smoke, and how to take a solid right hook. Eventually, they divorced, at which point Hyacinth helped herself to half of his assets, which she invested well and turned into a moderate fortune.
As a divorced woman, her involvement in society was limited to essentially the fringes, until she met Pierce Fortan II. It was love at first sight -- more or less -- and they were engaged within a year of meeting one another. She started the Oxford Club on Galidraan during their engagement, using the dividends from her investment of her first husband's money, which proved to be a financial success. Pierce II's parents were less than thrilled with the match due to Hyacinth's status a divorcee, and they only agreed to the marriage on the condition that it would be morganatic as it related to the larger Fortan title (Earl of Herevan) and estate (Herevan Hold). As a result, their son, Pierce Fortan III, was out of the running when Frejrik died, meaning that the estate and title passed to a more distant relation, Maximilian Jens.
Pierce II ran his estate and Hyacinth ran her burgeoning investments empire for many years, pausing every so often to have children, until Pierce II died. Pierce III took over the Barony of Chiltenham, but hired an agent to run the estate while he enlisted. After a few years of mourning, Hyacinth followed Pierce to Dosuun where she opened a new rendition of the Oxford Club, styled the Oxford Society Club.
