As with the Pseudointerdictors that preceded it, Hyperwave Inertial Momentum Arrestors were designed by Globex's most free-thinking engineers as an alternative to the neverending 'arms race' that marks the development of more conventional devices. Instead of being better than HIMS, they are simply different - for one, HIMA is much simpler, cheaper, and less maintenance-intensive than its 'brutishly effective' progenitor.
After all, while HIMS has to produce a temporary interdiction-resistant bubble, HIMA just has to 'hit the breaks'.

- Hyperwave Inertial Momentum Arrestors are specialised devices built into or attached to a conventional hyperdrive; gravitic anomaly sensors akin to those used in HIMS systems detect interdiction fields just before entering them, allowing vessels to drop out of hyperspace before they would be forced out. While still a rough ride, this is very much preferable to exiting exactly where the enemy expects, for obvious reasons.
- HIMAs can be turned off when not needed to avoid false positives - unfortunately, ambushes are by their very nature unpredictable.
- Escape Artist: HIMAs allow vessels to drop out of Hyperspace before entering an interdiction field; retreats may be possible.
