0525h or thereabouts...

Dash Ardellian lay blinking at the near-darkness in front of his face, trying to distinguish the ceiling in the pre-dawn gloom. He allowed his bleary eyes time to adjust as he sensed a warm mass in bed next to him. He looked over; noticing the shapely near-nakedness of the petite brunette human next to him and feeling a wave of confusion. Not because she was there ... Dash knew damn well she was there, and knew even better how she'd got there in the first place. I hope it was worth it. He shook his head at his lack of self-control; his lack of maturity ... but he couldn't help but smile.

He rolled over and checked the time. 0528h. His alarm would go off in two minutes. If he left now he'd be home by 0600h and would be able to get a shower and breakfast in before work. If he stayed another two minutes there was a good chance he'd stay another half hour and compound all of the bad life choices he'd made the night before. Decisions decisions ... it was time to go. He couldn't afford to get sucked into this again. They'd broken up for a reason.

And then the alarm went off, and so did hers, and within moments those big brown eyes had cleared and were on him almost instantly. He smiled and they softened; she rolled over to him and huddled against him and shared his warmth. Another wave of conflicted feelings washed over him, mostly analysing his inability to be satisfied with anything that would make a normal man happy. She's beautiful, she loves you, and you don't know how to feel about it. As a reaction, and perhaps as an over-compensation, he pulled her closer to him.

"Are you going?" she asked, as if she didn't already know the answer.

"Yeah," Dash said somewhat distantly. "Work, you know how it is.."

"Yeah," she replied. There was a pause in their conversation, as if both were deep in thought. Then she smiled and pushed him softly towards the edge of the mattress. "Get going then."

"You kickin' me out, Sahra?" He chuckled as his hands fumbled around for his pants, eventually getting hold of them and pulling them on.

"It's either that or I'll make you stay." She stretched herself acrobatically on the bed, her face goading him on. He pulled on his shirt and laughed fondly, then smirked back at her.

"You are good at that." She smiled then rolled over, hiding her face. Dash stood, filled his pockets with his essentials then leaned over and kissed her on the forehead. "See you soon, spider monkey."

"Yeah.." she said distantly. "See you."

Dash let himself out, his hand on his sidearm as he walked to his surprisingly unmolested speeder. The thing about living and working in Coalition space was that you were never truly safe. Every part of the Outback was a lawless part of town, every locality a cesspit, a hive of scum and villainy. The galaxy was just one big ghetto, man. The more Dash lived, the more he tried to go legit, the more he saw it. Sometimes he wondered what the point was.

He jumped into the driver seat of his two-door speeder and started the ignition, taking a second to pause and reflect on the sultry, doe-eyed beauty he'd left to sleep the morning away. Gorram it Dash, what the feth are you doing? What indeed. He released the handbrake and pulled away, driving into the rising sun.
