Effective Range: Capital ship version's effective range is much shorter than all capital ship weapons; maximum effectiveness peaks at 2km, with complete ineffectiveness at 4km. A long-range capital version would draw long-range turbolaser levels of power but only match standard turbolasers for range. Laser cannon equivalent's range is shorter than all starfighter weapons; maximum effectiveness peaks at 400m, with complete ineffectiveness at 800m.

Description: The Raptor ACES module is a direct scaleup of ACP technology in its various forms. It is capable of inflicting disproportionate amounts of damage on deflector shields at very short range. It is almost completely useless against unshielded vessels, making it a very specialized choice, and not one suitable for all ships. Some designers see the value in pairing it with ion cannons, but such ships suffer in terms of the ability to do actual damage. Unless especially innovative niche starship designs come about, the Raptor ACP weapon is likely to be relegated to bounty hunters, customs patrol craft, and privateers.

In terms of firing rate, physical appearance, muzzle velocity, effective range and power drain, the Raptor ACES is virtually identical to a turbolaser, laser cannon or ion cannon. Where most turbolaser, laser cannon or ion cannon blasts are red, green, or blue/blue-yellow, the Raptor ACP weapon fires brilliant yellow blasts.

The Raptor ACES is available as a starfighter weapon, capital defense gun, capital weapon, or vehicle weapon. In each case, for ship stat purposes, it is worth one weapon. Fair warning: when used in atmosphere, it has a tendency to overheat almost twice as fast as a laser cannon. (Unless on Hoth or something like that.)

It's made specifically to shred shields and doesn't really do much more than that, I could go nitpick on one detail or another- but it's already pretty balanced.

So I am stamping it, because I love it.
