OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To sub Kaida's lightsabre since she's a duellist type.
  • Image Source: Here. Concept art of Starkiller's lightsabres. Found on Wookieepedia.
  • Canon Link: N/A.
  • Restricted Missions: N/A.
  • Primary Source: The Sentinel, Vanquish, Jaxton's Retrosaber.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Kaida Taldir
  • Model: N/A
  • Affiliation: Kaida Taldir
  • Modularity: Crystal and power cellscan be swapped.
  • Production: Unique
  • Material: Phrik, Kyber Crystal, standard lightsabre components.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Lightsabre.
  • Size: Average
  • Length: Hilt 25 cm, blade 110 cm.
  • Weight: Light
SPECIAL FEATURESStrengths:
  • All the standard strengths of a lightsabre.
  • Due to Non-dimetris circuitry, it cannot be shorted out by cortosis, only blocked.
  • Phrik hilt.
  • Can be utilised in water.
  • Due to the overcharge capacitor, the weapon is able to soar in cutting power for a very short time span. This enables it to cut through materiels such as Phrik, Ultrachrome, Beskar and similar alloys with relative ease, compared to a normal lightsabre. Similarly, it gains the ability to overload Yuuzhan Vong power fields, making it realistic to cut through Vonduun Crab Armour and Amphistaves compared to a conventional lightsabre.
Weaknesses:
  • The same overcharge causes a power drain, draining the power cells in a short span of time. This kind of power can only be maintained for thirty seconds before the power cells must be switched. The blade will not be able to amp its wattage again till they've been replaced, though it can remain active.
  • When the lightsabre is overcharged, its blade is modulated as if it were designed to deflect Ssi-Ruuvi Paddle Beamers. So it cannot deflect conventional blaster bolts while in this setting.
  • As with any lightsabre, lack of mass limits the amount of power a wielder can unleash with each blow, compared to a physical blade that can cause physical trauma through sheer force.
  • Lightsabres are weak at blocking conventional bullets (slug rounds etc.).
DESCRIPTION

For millennia, lightsabres have been the standard weapons of Jedi, Sith and various misc. Force-users from a myriad backgrounds and traditions. The reasoning is quite simple: They can deflect and reflect blaster bolts, thereby protecting the wielder against the standard ranged weapons of this Galaxy. At least unless the wielder in question is being swarmed by various blaster-wielding shooters. Furthermore, they can cut through most materiels and are awfully good at amputating limbs.

However, technology has marched on. In this day and age, guns that nullify or severely mitigate a lightsabre's protective qualitifes are rather common. Examples would be Bolters, Shatterguns, Ssi-Ruuvi Paddle Beamers, Railguns and so on and so forth. Furthermore, metal alloys such as beskar, phrik, ultrachrome etc. are commonly used by elite forces of various galactic governments and corporations. While they do not grant immunity, they have a high resistance to lightsabres.

As an Angelii, Kaida Taldir was trained in the use of the traditional melee weapons of the Eldorai's elite troops, namely a Sarix blade and a Sarzmigar polearm. While she continued to use these weapons after being exposed to the greater Galaxy, she also took an interest in lightsabres. She built her first one during her time as a Corporal in Omega Pyre, and continued using it after returning to the Angelii. In battle, she utilised a hybrid style that merged her old training with the new, often using a battle shield alongside a lightsabre. This served her well in several battles, such as on Skor and recently on Thyferra.

After she recanted her Angelii oath and joined the Eldorai Exiles who sought to build a new future for their people outside of the confines of the Monarchy, she decided it was time for a new weapon. Setting aside the desire to start a new chapter in her life, there were practical reasons for it, as outlined above. Her old sabre had been very old school and while it had served her well throughout many battles, it was time to upgrade her arsenal a bit.

Her new weapon is a reflection of her personality. For it is a practical tool that is supposed to help her slay her enemies. She does not entertain fanciful notions about it being a 'more elegant weapon for a more civilised time'. Thus it has been endowed with a phrik hilt, making it more difficult for other lightsabres wielders to destroy or disable the weapon. The hilt is decorated with Eldorai runes. These are completely mundane, but display the wielder's heritage. A Faraday cage around the electronics provides limited resistance to ionic attacks. Thanks to a bifurcating cyclical ignition pulse, it can function underwater.

The most important aspect of the weapon is the overcharge capacitator. This feature is based on the sabre wielded by Exar Kun, as well as similar designs that have popped up in the contemporary era. By activating a discharge power cell, Kaida can significantly increase the weapon's cutting power, albeit at the price of destabilising it. While overcharged, the weapon is able to cut through lightsabre-resistant metals such as beskar with far greater ease or otherwise damage them. It can also overwhelm the power fields manifested by Vong biots, enabling it to cause damage to Vong creations such as amphistaves far easier.

However, devices that have undergone the process of being strongly alchemised by potent Sith alchemy are generally too strong for the weapon to cut through, though it is possible to slice through more basic ones. But the overcharge comes at a price, for within thirty seconds the secondary power cell will be drained. Furthermore, the blade is unable to deflect blaster bolts while in this mode. All in all, the overcharge gives Kaida a notable advantage in combat, but like with every feature it has to be utilised intellgently. Nothing would be more embarrassing than being gunned down by a common blaster-wielder while trying this feature out - especially if the overcharge does not even have the desired effect on the target.
