I know I made you cry, but baby

Katarine was glad he at least wanted to stop drinking himself to death, though she wasn’t sure what to tell him as far as which Jedi Order to join. She had taken the Barash Vow and was currently on a spiritual journey after all. Maybe Valery Noble could help him though. Valery was another Jedi out of time who had helped Katarine too.

“I think the best bet is The New Jedi Order. They are affiliated with The Galactic Alliance. The Grandmaster there might be able to help. She helped me when I first left the hospital in Theed.”

If I could turn back time

Katarine was shocked at how temperamental Mak was. Maybe it was the alcohol, but usually Jedi masters were in more control of their emotions.

“I will go with you to see the grandmaster Mak. I meant maybe she can help you find your new path. She experienced her own time travel and was there when I needed to understand the Jedi of this time. She is a wise woman and a powerful Jedi. Honestly I would say she is the Hawk Hinata of this time. “

Mak stared down Kat, the patrons that sat near them watching the two tensely as neither said anything for a few moments before Mak pulled out his communicator. Speaking into it, Mak rubbed his temple, feeling the beginning of a migraine coming on.

"Darro, it's Mak. Are you nearby...?

A few seconds later, a groggy voice spoke back.

"What do you want, old man...? I was sleeping, damn it..."

"Get your ass to the cantina and meet me outside, and I don't want to hear how you're tired. I have a hangover coming on right now."

Looking back at Kat, Mak sighed, tapping his cane.

"Let's go, we have to meet my associate before we leave..."

If I could find a way

Katarine stood up and followed Mak out of the cantina. She noticed many people did not seem sorry to see him go. How long had he been causing trouble here?

“The Galactic Alliance headquarters is on Fondor. That is where we will fine Grandmaster Valery Noble.”

"One thing you learn about Mak, he doesn't like taking orders from anyone..."

As Darro walked up, he looked at Kat for a second before turning to Mak.

"What's up, old man?"

As they came outside, Mak looked over at Kat and felt a pang of sadness fill him up. Nothing would ever be the same again, and he wasn't so sure about what this future meant, where this path was taking him. He was about to speak when the kid walked up.

"Darro Carden, this is Jedi Master Katarine Ryiah. I've known her for a long time..."

I'd take back those words that have hurt you

Katarine knew Mak was a wayseeker, the type of Jedi who liked to work without the Council. There were actually a lot of this type in the galaxy now. Perhaps he would find a place among them. Anything was better than wasting his talent on bar fights.

“It’s nice to meet you. I was just discussing taking Master Manto to Fondor.”

"Wait a minute, you're leaving Tatooine?"

Turning to look at the new woman before turning back to Mak, he threw his hands up, a look in his eyes that seemed to be both surprise and anger.

"Aren't we a team out here? I get you information, you use that information to stop this Malic guy?"

"Sorry kid, but I've spent enough time in dive bars and cantinas drinking my issues away. I need to figure out if I can do this again, if I can be a Jedi..."

Pulling out the two hundred credits he had won in the bet, he slapped them in Darro's hand.

"That's for you, for everything you did for me. Not just being my infochant, but also keeping me going off from the deep end."

And you'd stay

Wait this wasn’t the deep end? Katarine raised her eyebrow when Mak said that but she shuddered when she pictured it even worse. Of course she was one to talk… swimming in addiction of her own.

“The Alliance is always looking for intel workers Darro. If you need a new gig. “

She smiled at him and winked then turned to Mak.

“Do you have a ship or do we need to barter a ride?”

He couldn't help but smirk as he saw her wink at him. He gave a grin back, but the smile disappeared as he realized Mak was leaving. The months the snake had been on Tatooine had been fun. Before meeting him, scavenging for parts and trading information between bounty hunters and smugglers was all he could do to eke out a living.

When Mak had ran into him in the bar in Mos Espa, he had told Darro he knew that he could help Mak. Sending him off throughout the Galaxy with credits Mak gave him allowed him to explore farther and further than he ever hoped.

Now, it was over...

The Alliance...

That was a pipe dream. He was a Tatooine kid, not some hero. There wasn't any way for him to ever think he could manage to do that, but Mak had allowed him to see a lot, and he owed him that.

"I can fly you both anywhere you need to get to. I used the credits Mak gave me for a lot of the jobs to get a small ship. She's not pretty, but she'll get you to where you need to."
