DESCRIPTION: The IFW-76x shield projector, also known as the Fortress-class Shield Dome, is a powerful starship shielding systems designed by the engineering teams of Imperium Forge Works. The systems in built off the centuries-old design for the ISD-72x shield domes and utilize modern technology to enhance and strengthen the dome itself as well as its output.
The body of the projector is constructed of an advanced frame system which protects the generator from electromagnetic and ionic disruption and damage. It accomplishes this by creating a faraday cage around the projector and its operating and wiring systems. The dome itself is wrapped in a layer of damage reduction reactive armor. This ablative armor utilizes high density alloys with a damage reduction circuit to provide a stable and formidable degree of protection for the shield projector.
The Shielding starts with the main Shield projector array. Multiple shielding systems are installed in the Dome which give the vessel a centralized shield projector capable of withstanding brutal punishment. This main layer includes protection from various sources of damaging effects by incorporating a series of special projector arrays. A ray shield array protects from energy based weapons and cosmic effects. A particle shield array protects from kinetic weapons which fire projectiles and from space debris and solid matter. A relativistic shield array is included to protect from temporal effects. a rad-dampening shield array protects from harmful radiation from weapons and cosmic anomalies. An atmospheric-friction shield array to protect the ship from entering and exiting a planets atmosphere. An ion shield array protects from harmful ionic interference such as Ion storms and Ion Cannon fire. These projectors are equipped with lateral control systems which allow the projectors to focus their shielding into one arc rather than a bubble. This can increase the defensive power into the focused shield arc.
Advanced dedicated capacitance systems aid in providing the constant power the projector needs. Power loop capacitors direct power from the vessels reactors core boosting the shield arrays power which is then supercharged by Capacitor Overchargers that store the power in dedicated Capacitor Banks built into the base of the projector. This power is then distributed to all ten of the systems projectors by redundant Power Cables, giving them the constant power needed for peak operational defense. Redundant Cooling Cables are ran throughout the system maintaining optimal temperature around the capacitance and electrical systems.
Field coverage is dependant on the vessel size. The projector can be tuned to protect any size vessel and is only limited by its power consumption. The larger the vessel the more power needed to provide coverage. Larger vessels require dedicated reactors for full coverage. These reactors feed power into the dedicated capacitor banks and supply system maintaining operation under the harshest of battle conditions. Redundancy can be incorporated into the system by adding additional dome projectors. Each projector is fed by its own dedicated bank of power regulating capacitor systems which are in turn fed from the vessels main rector or dedicated reactors. One reactor operates providing coverage for the vessel until it is damaged then automatically initializes the additional projector before powering down.
