BIG Z1776
Baboon with a MAAWS
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
The successor refit to the Block-I Illustrious-Class Carriers which has been refitted to take advantage of the new electromagnetic plasma cannon weaponry recently-developed for the fleet's new modernization program. These ships are now much more comfortable and much more capable than they were before, able to rapidly launch its starfighters in great numbers to challenge and enemy force without opening the hangar bay doors to attack. Some of the added weapons include additional flak turrets and anti-starfighter missiles, and ship-to-ship missiles, making the ship deadlier, but not enough to make fleet commanders more comfortable placing the ships into a battle line, however these weapons are specifically-designed for handling the kinds of threats that can get in close and not be targeted by its own heavier weapons, such as fast corvettes and frigates. However, some of the weaknesses, such as its speed, have not been rectified, although its hyperdrives have been replaced and upgraded.

- Six tractor beam generators for assisting in fighters and other craft coming in for a landing and for taking over for damaged craft on approach.
- A pair of tractor beam generators on two sides of the bow for grabbing small craft and other small ships
- The bridge is split into several sections, with large and comprehensive information centers and fighter direction stations for guiding squadrons in combat even from afar.
- Lots of fire control sensors and fire control station prevent loss of weapons coordination in the event of damage, with as many targeting computers on the ship as there are the ship can handle massively-complicated enemy attack waves and complex attack patterns.
- Compartmentalized and ray-shielded ammunition bunkers linked by ammunition elevators and with blow-out channels to space to prevent catastrophic detonation.
- Strong electronic warfare suite to jam transmissions and interfere with locking scanners from enemy munitions.
- Segmented fuel tanks for their fighters and support craft protected by ray shields and vents to space and large supplies of fire-fighting foam to prevent detonation for fires from spreading.
- Hangar has large blast doors to protect it from boarding attempts, now, unlike the Block-I generation of ships, these blast doors are doubled-up and are sandwiched by ray shields.
- Large number of HOB/F Heavy Blasters in the hangar, near the engine spaces, the reactors, the ammunition lockers, the fuel tanks, and at the bridge mounted in autoturrets for anti-boarder defense. The Block-II ships now have more of these autoturrets mounted in the corridors, which have ray shields and additional internal sensors and blast doors to make boarding a difficult proposition.
- The Block-II ships have been improved in terms of crew comfort, most notable of all are improved crew quarters with sound dampeners to shield the noises of the hangars from the rest of the ship, especially the crew quarters areas. The ship has also been given improved lighting fixtures, air conditioning/heating units, better kitchen and mess hall facilities, and more ergonomic command facilities such as more comfortable chairs, better work station layout, etc.
- Scattered shield generators are built into the hull to reduce their targeting signatures and they are in overlapping positions so that they can shore up weak spots with one another and they share access to one another's coolant systems with multiple pipe networks to assist one another in preventing catastrophic over-heating.
- Comprehensive and heavily redundant damage control systems with a high emphasis on redundancy and rapid response. All turrets are sectioned-off, along with their ammunition lockers. There are pre-positioned fire-fighting hoses, breathing apparatus lockers, fire-fighting suits for more than half the crew, and every hallway, room, and mechanical component is covered by fire-fighting foam dispensers. These damage control measures are controlled by damage control centers scattered throughout the ship with overlapping fields of responsibility to increase redundancy.
- Ammunition lockers for the old proton cannon weaponry have been removed, and the space is now being used for an additional maintenance hangar level and a deployment method using magnetic catapult tubes for launching their fighters out the side of the ships, these tubes are fifty meters long, and have magnetic sleds for launching their starfighters, in this case they are shaped for their FT-99 "Banshee" Starfighters.
- Modular sections of the ship can be easily removed from the hull by a dockyard, allowing rapid and comprehensive major repairs to be conducted, and this system allows for these warships to be constructed quickly in smaller shipyards and for entire sections of ships to be stocked at repair yards.
- Hangars and repair decks are heavily-compartmentalized with numerous fuel pipes and pumps, plus ammunition elevators and lifts to prevent venting to space and still allow access to the carrier's craft so operations may continue unhindered, each section of the hangar has specialized command centers for monitoring and coordinating hangar operations.
- Powerful and hyper-accurate navigation computers, able to make pin-point jumps, there are two of them, one for the primary and secondary hyperdrives. This allows these ships to engage and disengage at times and places of their choosing.
- Large warship, can take lots of hits.
- Can be quickly repaired thanks to its modular construction.
- Its guns possess a very long range, can engage with railgun-armed vessels at their own ranges.
- Excellent damage control systems.
- Huge hangar capacity and excellent layout for rapid launch and recovery in battle conditions. The Block-II ships can launch a fleet of its fighters even faster than before, and can dedicate its hangar more to recovery operations.
- Can make back-to-back jumps into very specific places thanks to hyper-accurate navigation computers for both its primary and secondary hyperdrives.
- Quite a large target due to its size, hard to miss it either on scanners or with a weapons system.
- Large ammunition bunkers and fuel tanks make it a potential powder keg.
- Much slower than the rest of the Crossroads fleet, can be a real anchor on a CRAF task force if sublight speed is of the essence.
- Requires a large supply train to keep itself and its fighter complement operating at full capacity.
- Requires large crew with a high degree of training to operate even at peacetime capacity.
- Undergunned for ship-to-ship combat for a ship its size.
