ADVANCED SYSTEMS
Strengths:
- Scorched Earth: Along with its primary autocannons, the Immortal-class is an extremely heavily armed ship, especially in the case of orbital bombardment. With its full strength brought to bear, the Immortal-class can quickly and easily decimate a large area on the ground.
- Hitting it only makes it angry: With its advanced molecular shielding system, and strong hull and frame, the Immortal-class can be quite difficult to deal with for an enemy.
Weaknesses:
- Not its own escort: With only a small number of close-range turbolasers and fighter squadrons, the Immortal-class has only limited defences against enemy starfighters and smaller craft, as such, it usually requires the assistance of other allied starships to ensure its full protection.
- Slow as a snail: The Immortal-class is not remotely fast or maneuverable, considering its relative size. As it can easily be outmaneuvered, the preferred tactic of the Immortal-class is either to get as close to the enemy force or planet as possible, or to be used in a surprise attack, before defenses can be mobilized.
- Questionable Legality: The Immortal-class was designed and constructed in secret, by only one-third of the triumvirate. As such, it is likely to create a political fallout in the Alliance upon its reveal
- Fire Rate: Considering the fact the Immortal-class uses four autocannons, it drains much more power from the ships systems to fire, meaning that recharge times are far longer than normal.
Description:
The Immortal-class Siege Dreadnought was first conceived shortly after Aryn Teth took up the position as the Galactic Alliance's Supreme Commander, as one of a number of projects which would allow the Alliance to compete at a far greater capability with its enemies. Using his new position, Supreme Commander Teth took great care to keep much of the conception and initial construction of the Immortal-class, originally referred to as 'Project Eliza', secret from the rest of the triumvirate, and from the Alliance as a whole, knowing full-well the concerns its destructive potential would bring.
With the Great Galactic War in full swing, and with the shifting focus of the Alliance towards the core, Supreme Commander Teth was able to utilize the complicated hyperspace lanes of the deep core, and the intense security of the region to begin production of the Immortal-class on a greater scale.
Originally intended to accompany heavy proton beams, it was advances in tech which caused the primary weapon of the Immortal-class to be changed to the heavy autocannons it now has, however, considering the relative lack of autocannons used by the Alliance, there were a number of security breaches which almost allowed 'Project Eliza' to be known by the rest of the Triumvirate, forcing production to be dialed down to a small number of ships, rather than the entire class they were intended for.
Following the Sith Empire's campaign coreward, and the decimation of the Free Worlds Coalition, the majority of the project has been completed, and a number of Immortal-class ships have been brought under the direction of the Supreme Commander for full use, regardless of the political fallout likely to follow their reveal.
