Imperial Nobility and the High Council

Over its millennia of existence Atrisia has seen many noble houses rise and fall. Positions have come into favor and disappeared into history, but after coming under the influence of the Galactic Empire its noble ranks were solidified into what they are today. Nobility is passed from parent to child (or can be given to an adopted child if childbirth is impossible). Traditionally the first born inherits any property, with other members of the family simply retaining their title but no power.

Ranks of Nobility

Lord/Jun - This is the highest rank of nobility below Emperor. Lords were often those who held royal titles outside Atrisia, or those trusted by the Emperor to rule territory in their stead. Currently only Lord Nedo, ruler of the Chiss Ascendancy, holds this rank. Akio's heirs receive the title "Jun" or prince/princess.

Duke/Gyon - The rank of Duke was usually given with large plots of land to be managed in the Emperor's stead. Usually a Duke is related to those giving them the rank, or they have performed significant service for the Empire.

Count/Bahn - Counts, like Dukes, are given plots of lands to govern for the Empire. Counts hold smaller land titles, and have lower social status.

Yovshin - Descendants of the original Yovshin Swordsmen that served the Emperors of the past, Yovshin families were given land as a reward for their service. The main Yovshin houses still pass their skills in jar'kai down through the generations. The most common and most respected of the titles, the Yovshin as a whole have the largest influence over the planet's course of the nobles. The members of the Reki see themselves as modern Yovshin Swordsmen, and in fact many of the Reki clan heads are part of the Yovshin class.

Baron of the Empire - A title that only appeared with Palpatine's rule, this title is given by the Imperial government for serving in exemplary fashion. Along with the title comes with land. Barons fall in the same class as Yovshin.

The High Council

When Moff Lee closed off Atrisia from the outside world, a mere military governor in complete charge of the planet. To give his position more legitimacy he created a council made up of the most powerful noble families on Atrisia to recognize those with the most influence and gain their backing. While the High Council has no real collective power, it is made up of the most powerful families on Atrisia. Each one either owns large amounts of land or has significant economic clout making them important to keeping Empire going.

As the Empire has grown, nobles from beyond Atrisia's borders have joined the High Council, though the original member families still hold strong sway. Factions within this environment shift often, as they try and bolster their own personal power bases.
