Private In the last embers

Sergeant Omen

Arc Trooper Sergeant of the 41st Elite Corps

When: Late afternoon or evening of the Festival of Stars
Where: Market square

It had been a good day. Omen had made a tidy profit with his stand and he had scores of potential new customers. Plus he had helped Lori make a life-changing decision that would hopefully be for the better. Now all he had to do was take the tent down, put it in the back of his speeder van and drive back to his mountain to get some rest for the flight back to Enclave space tomorrow. Now all he had to do is load up the tent and whose to say a little magic wouldn't help him out.

One by one, he hoisted the downed tent polls into truckbed using the mystical abilities of the force. Usually, he wouldn't use it for such a mundane task and especially in public but it was growing tired and he had sent all of his staff away to watch the fireworks the Jedi were hosting. Still, the work needed to be done and besides, the whole market square was deserted. Who was to see him?

Not as deserted as he might of thought it was. There was still someone lurking about.

In particular the young Jedi Master Barrien Siegfried, a former student of Corvus Raaf, and a practitioner of non-violent approaches to problems. Which might seem a bit ironic considering he wore a lightsaber lance strapped to his back, a shield strapped to his forearm, and leather armor. Not that the latter was particularly good for anything, but where he was from it was quite useful. Suffice to say, he didn't look particularly peaceful. But, as they say, looks can be, and often are, deceiving.

Which was why he watched the person across the way using the Force to lift tent polls with a natural curiosity. Such a mundane task, but he opted to utilize the Force for it? Still, he didn't know. Perhaps this individual had some issue that made it so that he could only do so much manual labor and this particular effort saved some wear and tear. It was possible.

"Does some ailment afflict you that you utilize the Force in such a manner?" he asked, stepping from the nearby shadows. "If so, I might be able to assist."

Omen turned to see a Jedi... paladin or at least that's what a person who could use the force and looked they had just come from a ren fair. Cocking an eyebrow at the Jedi's comments, he placed the last tent pole in the back of the speeder bus."I just want to get out of here and into my bed. Its been a long day of answering orders and I'm tired to the bone... Both my metal and original ones by the way. Besides, I'm the only one here, and having the force as a partner always helps get the job done faster. Getting some practice doesn't hurt either."

The Clone gazed at his questioner with suspension, wondering what this knight's endgame is. "What does it matter to you Jedi? Why aren't you at that fireworks display that your comrades are hosting?" He then turned to the tent canvas and started to fold it up. It wouldn't be that hard to put the material onto the top of the heavy tent poles and winch it all down so that's what he was going to do. Hopefully, his load would last till he was all the way home.

"Fireworks are an interesting thing. We did not have them on my world," Barrien said, nodding his head. "Perhaps it would be normal for me to attend, but then I am not what one calls normal."

Not in the slightest, he thought to himself. He drummed his fingers against the shield he wore on his arm while wondering about this person in front of him. The Force as a partner. That was an interesting sentiment for having the Force do your work for you. Not what he would call a partnership, but then he supposed it was possible for people to have different definitions of the word. Everyone was different in this galaxy, as he knew.

"Practice is good. Partnership is interesting. I don't see how the Force gains from you using it for mundane tasks, though. Seems a little like abuse of a partner. The Force is really meant to be used to help others, not ourselves. We're its tools to shape the galaxy and best if we do so peacefully."

He motioned to the man.

"What order are you a part of? That might explain your thinking."

Omen gave the Knight's explanation a soft chuckle, seeing at least one similarity between them "Neither am I Jedi. Neither am I..." Being a clone, he wasn't exactly a common sight and he definitely wouldn't classify himself as normal. Being able to snipe blaster bolts out of the air wasn't exactly normal either.

The Man in Mando armor just shook his head at the Jedi's "scolding". What made him the expert to criticize his use of the force? Oh, how he hated to be browbeat after every turn. All he could do is explain his reasoning and hope the Jedi dropped the topic. "Each of these poles is anywhere from 100 to 200 pounds and take at least take 2-3 men to carry each. By using the force, I've freed that staff that would be here helping me up to watch the fireworks. So technically I did help people using the force." Ah technicalities, don't you love them.

The Clone thought for a moment about how he should phrase his answer before giving one to the man's question. "None to be honest. The Silvers didn't technically accept me in and two Silver Jedi dropped me when they didn't have time in their schedules to teach me after a couple of lessons. I do pick up lessons here and there from Jedi friends but mainly I'm self-taught."

"A hundred pounds should be manageable for most individuals. Two hundred for some, I suppose. But, I guess that's a reasonable explanation."

Though he would comment on why one needed a tent with such heavy poles in the first place unless it was a permanent dwelling, he decided not to. He had plenty of experience with such manners, as there were quite a few tent encampments on Oaken Dawn, but those were used as permanent dwellings for large families and they required hefty supports so that they wouldn't come tumbling down in the wind and weather. Based on the way this one spoke, this tent was more of a temporary convenience. Camping. But, again, not truly important.

The more curious matter was his lack of acceptance by the Jedi. He hadn't known them not to accept anyone that sought them out unless they had cause. Usually there was some matter of irreconcilable darkness or something. He, personally, didn't care about such things and thought everyone should be accepted and nurtured, not shunned.

"I am curious as to why they didn't accept you. You have the aptitude, so there must have been another reason. And for two teachers to drop you because of their schedules seems bizarre to me. A student, once taken in, should not be released without completion of their training," he said, shaking his head. "Very bizarre. Who were these Jedi? Perhaps I should speak with them."

Omen tried to relax in the Jedi's questions but failed. This Jedi seemed the highborn variety and those were always too nosey for their own good. It was like getting questions by a Maw higherup while getting your guts sucked out. Okay, maybe it wasn't that bad... At least he had let the whole tent pole thing drop. "I run a food and beverage company which is the reason I was even here. I was selling foodstuffs from the tent during the festival and gave out business cards. It's why I'm even on Kashyyyk in the first place."

He just shrugged as the Jedi Master seemed aghast at the thought of him being abandoned. Omen had gotten used to it by now though. The only purpose in this galaxy he had been "born" with was to kill and stay alive as long as he was useful to the Republic cause. Now he had two purposes, stay alive and grab as many experiences as he could with his shortened lifespan. What an improvement on his outlook it was. "Like I said, they had either had other commitments come up that they couldn't take me on or they didn't want to take care of a problem child. One was a Knight named Aayla Shan and the other was a Master by the name of Linquista Malnorn. You'll probably find Aayla easier than Linquista."
