First GA Character, A-wing pilot, Not my first character. I'd like to build this character up to eventually lead a flight of A-wings (a flight being Four of the starfighters out of a squadron of 12) but think it'd probably be best to get into the feel of the faction and build up to it first

Entirely up to you. If you feel you have the drive to run, and recruit for, your own squadron then go down that route. You can use the template to put it on the GA board!
