- Interdiction Field — When activated, the Interdiction Pulse Sphere generates a powerful interdiction field using a dedicated engine as the generator.
- Inertia — When activated, the Interdiction Pulse Sphere causes physical matter in the surrounding area experiences an increase in inertia.
- Area of Effect — The scale of the interdiction field is twice the size of the vessel's greatest dimension. This could be increased to three-times the size of the vessel’s greatest dimension if the design team decides to sacrifice another aspect of functionality (minus one point from total ratings, taken from: Armaments, Defenses, Hangar Space, Maneuverability, Speed).
- Duration — The Interdiction Pulse Sphere can only be activated for a limited period of time. This scales with the size of the ship:
- Small Craft — 3 seconds
- Corvette — 10 seconds
- Frigate — 30 seconds
- Cruiser — 1 minute
- Star Destroyer — 2 minutes
- Battle Cruiser — 5 minutes
- Dreadnaught — 10 minutes
- Power-Up Time— The power-up time before a vessel can activate the Interdiction Pulse Sphere is dependent on the size of the ship:
- Small Craft — 1 second
- Corvette — 2 seconds
- Frigate — 3 seconds
- Cruiser — 6 seconds
- Star Destroyer — 12 seconds
- Battle Cruiser — 30 seconds
- Dreadnaught — 1 minute
- Cooldown Time— The cooldown time before a vessel can re-activate the Interdiction Pulse Sphere is dependent on the size of the ship:
- Small Craft — 1 minute
- Corvette — 2 minutes
- Frigate — 5 minutes
- Cruiser — 10 minute
- Star Destroyer — 20 minutes
- Battle Cruiser — 50 minutes
- Dreadnaught — 1 hour and 40 minutes
- Slow Down — The Interdiction Pulse Sphere causes physical matter that's been caught in its interdiction field to slow down. Unless vessels within range have been equipped with a countermeasure that could resist the effects of a gravity well projector, they could see a slow down in their mobility (Example | Speed: Average to Low, Maneuverability: Average to Low).
- Point Defense — This could be used by a starfighter to slowdown an incoming missile, so they could take it out with a point defense laser cannon, or a capital ship to use a pressor beam to push away would-be collision.
- Gravity Well — The Interdiction Pulse Sphere generates an interdiction field which could pull vessels out of or prevent vessels from escaping into hyperspace.
- Double Down — The effects of the Interdiction Pulse Sphere generates has a disproportionate impact on the vessel using it. The powerful interdiction field this system generates significantly decreases the mobility of the equipped vessel (Example | Speed: Average to Very Low, Maneuverability: Average to Very Low). This could also strain against the internal artificial gravity systems, periodically increasing the internal gravity of the ship between 1 - 4%. If for whatever reason, the internal artificial gravity system has been knocked out -- the Interdiction Pulse Sphere cannot be used (without killing everyone onboard).
- Indiscriminate Effects — When a vessel activates the Interdiction Pulse Sphere, the powerful interdiction field that it generates will affect both enemies and allies alike.
- Exposed Target — The Interdiction Sphere requires a dedicated engine to generate the powerful interdiction field. While this varies between ship designs, frequently, the engine that the Interdiction Sphere has been equipped on will be an exposed target.
- Gravity Well Countermeasure — Similar to it's cousin, the Gravity Well Projector, this system could be countered by the Gravity Well Neutralizer and similar technology that nullifies the effects of an interdiction field. When the powerful interdiction field has been nullified by a gravity well neutralizer, it's Double Down effect will remain on the ship as long as the system remains activated.
- Energy Weapons — While the Interdiction Pulse Sphere can cause physical matter to slow down, including missiles and kinetic rounds, it has little to no effect on weaponry that are purely-energy based. while significantly less effective, the powerful interdiction field does have a minimal amount of influence on turbolaser blasts due to the presence of gas as a medium.
- Easily Detected — When the Interdiction Pulse Sphere is begins to power-up, the system emits a powerful signature that can be detected from afar. The energy flowing into the system and the gravity distortions that begin to form will readily be read by most sensor suites. This could buy a person a couple of precious seconds to try and make a get away, especially when the Interdiction Pulse Sphere has been equipped on a larger capital ship.
- Installation Limits — Due to the immense amount of power that the Interdiction Pulse Sphere uses, it's impossible to dedicate a second engine, and install a second Interdiction Pulse Sphere, without overloading the ship's power systems.
The Interdiction Pulse Sphere was invented in recent decades in a research lab on Raithal. The Federal Cooperative wanted to create a ship component that could increase the maneuverability of a starfighter. They had hoped they could design a compact model of the Centripetal Compass, however, this was a difficult challenge. Scaling down the infrastructure required to construct that system was difficult. However, they came-up with a solution. If available space was an issue -- they would make use of what would already be onboard all starfighters -- the sublight engines. They experimented with creating a modular unit that could convert a connected engine into a gravity manipulation device. They found success in this endeavor. Unfortunately, they weren't able to find a sensible design or cost-effective solution to improve the directionality of the starfighter's movements. However, the leadership at the Federal Cooperative realized the technology could have other applications. They would split the team-in-half, forming a second team, to turn the modular unit into a flexible interdiction field generator.
